Title: Building some spinners
Post by: FinsnFur on April 11, 2012, 09:32:36 PM
Seems like every year when I hit my favorite sport shop up here, the spinners that I like to call my go-to spinners, gets chinsier and chinsier.
The blades are shrinking, the hook draw is getting shorter, the wire is thinner, the skirts are plastic :doh2: :iroll: wtf?

I got ticked off this year while attempting to fill up on these go to lures of mine. I decided to order everything I needed to whip up my own batch, and since the kids like to fish on top of the logs instead of under them, I bought heavily.
:eyebrownod:

2 packs of leaded and painted wires
2 packs of #5 hammered willows
A pack of #2 hammered colorados
A pack of #5 hammered colorados
A pack of 4mm beads
A pack of #3 nickel clevises
A pack #1 split rings
Couple packs of silicone skirts

I even had an empty Plano® box in the shop for all the components. :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:

FINALLY!.....good spinners with good deep cup blades, and real skirts :congrats: :yoyo: :jump:

Oh my god, would you believe that there's probably only two people in three surrounding counties that even know what a pair of split ring pliers are?  :doh2: :innocentwhistle:

Where in the %$@* can a guy buy a pair of these? I went into town today and hit an Oriellys, Tractor Supply, Walmart, True Value, CarQuest, and Ace Hardware.
Not a single sole knew what split ring pliers were. They all tried selling me snap ring pliers. :loco:

Order this pair here...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/XURON-496-SPLIT-RING-PLIERS-RANKED-1-IN-FISHING-MAG-/180859645584?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1c132e90

I have about 5 different pairs and this pair is by far the best.  Most pairs I have are more expensive to but I always reach for this pair.  I was watching a fishing show the other day and they were modifyin' some lures and I seen them using these pliers also so Im not the only fan of them.

Your spinners look great!!  I threw some Spinners together yesterday...

Hey I like those links Jerry :eyebrownod: Hagens even has the pliers hidehunter is showing off.
I like the idea of borrowing a pair from Doug and then just kind of accidentally misplacing them :innocentwhistle:

I was getting giddy and didnt want to have to wait on an ordered pair, thats why I was running around yesterday looking. :sneer:
I noticed last night while looking online again that Cabelas has 7 or 8 different pair.  :doh2: Why did I think of that?

Hidehunter you like the ones with the tooth at the end of the jaws better then the ones with the tooth recessed back a little? Thats gonna be be my dilemma...which works better.

I like the ones with the tooth at the end.  I am generally using some good size split rings to except for the smaller ones on my blades on my spinnerbaits.

Thats actually where I ordered all my components Jerry.  :eyebrownod: They were a bit cheaper then Barlows

Hidehunter, how do you like those for the smaller rings then? Cause mine are all size 001
I might whip over to Cabelas tonight and grab a pair.

Cabelas had a pair like that in their own brand and I picked one up tonight.
I have no idea how well they work though  Katie wanted to try making one, so I walked her through one and the next thing I know she's doing them all and handing to me to bend shut and put a skirt on em. :shock2:

We had a mini assembly line going.

Oh we will. When the spawn is on,  the kids will burn through em like cupcakes at a pot party.
