Title: Northern boys

Anyone have any luck this past winter with tip-ups on the ice?

I use to love that type of fishing for pike in the winter.

I never had the chance to get out, but I did witness several 12 to 14 pounders get pulled out up here.
We got a nice little bay off the main channel of the Mississippi that is pretty popular.

Or just after the ice breaks down and becomes slushy chunks. HOLY COW are they vigorous then. I imagine it's from the rapid oxygen in take of the water from the melting ice...but man hang on to your rod!  :eyebrownod:  :doh2: Well you know what I mean  :laf:

Yes, I always put 4 tip-ups down with herring for bait, and jig one hole. We are always bringing fish home.
