Title: Turkey call's
Post by: pitw on September 08, 2008, 09:20:32 PM
Evening guys.  I was out playing with the turkey call I won earlier this year[don't have a clue what I'm doing] and managed to call in a pup coyote.  Is there such a thing as a gobble call?  If so who makes one and wants to send it with instuctions to Canada.
Thanks
Barry

A double sided box call makes a good gobble.  Also they make dedicated gobble calls like these:

H S Strut (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0024597228993a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&sort=all&QueryText=gobble&Ntk=Products&_D%3AhasJS=+&Go.y=14&Nty=1&hasJS=true&%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Ftemplates%2Fgiftcertificate%2Fgiftcertificate.jsp%3Fid%3D0005586990011a%26podId%3D0005586%26catalogCode%3DIB%26navAction%3Djump%26indexId%3D&_D%3A%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=+&N=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=12)

Quaker Boy (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0038116221080a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&sort=all&QueryText=gobble&Ntk=Products&_D%3AhasJS=+&Go.y=14&Nty=1&hasJS=true&%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Ftemplates%2Fgiftcertificate%2Fgiftcertificate.jsp%3Fid%3D0005586990011a%26podId%3D0005586%26catalogCode%3DIB%26navAction%3Djump%26indexId%3D&_D%3A%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=+&N=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=12)

I don't use a gobble call in the woods while turkey hunting.  Too dangerous me thinks.

We don't have wild turkeys to hunt here, just a bunch of tame ones to play with.  I was wanting to get one or two just to see what our coyotes will do with them.

FWIW-- I was purring on a slate call last fall & had a coyote come to it. It came in behind me & started to circle downwind when I seen it. I never got the shot on it tho.

It's a round call with a wooden striker that I have [i'm assuming that it is slate like a blackboard because I can make my teeth curl with it and I don't have any].  Am I supposed to be able to make it gobble [be news to me].  I can talk to the hens pretty good but gobble uh uh.

You can cackle but probably never gobble on a slate were ya looking for a box call or a shaker either way your gonna have movement unless you use a mouth call or e-caller and even a mouth call you will move a bit.
KeeKee makes a fine mouth call. I make hand carved boxes - Made with a draw knife and spoke shave for the curve on the lid and most of em can gobble pretty nice but ya gotta move a bunch.

Well i can't see movement being much of a problem  as i'll try it with my boy's along[talk about movement].  I wouldn't use an ecaller no way uh uh :puke:.  How much do I send south this time.

Hope that thing comes with instructions.  Looks like you could remove a finger and I don't have that many more to spare.
