I just bought a new Bushmaster AR.  what would be the best scope at a decent price to use.   :wo: What bipod to use if any.  should i put a tatical light kit on it.  Just looking for some help, to many options. :madd:   Thought everybody elses trial and error might help. Thanks

I like the Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 scope.   Don't know if this is the "best" or not but I like it.   As for a bi-pod, go to Varmint Al's site and he has details on how to make one.  Or get a Stoney Point Polecat.   Lots of guys like a mono-pod better than a bi-pod.   Lights?  We can't hunt at night in KY so I have no idea.

Congrats on your new AR!    :congrats:

You know what  they say about opinion - if you were to ask this to ten different shooters you would get ten different answers.  I agree with Semp when he said   " Don't know if this is the "best" or not but I like it".  I just recently put a Vortex on my AR, inexpensive, under $200 scope.

As far as a bi-pod on a coyote gun my "opinion" - no way.  I have lost a lot of opportunities because of a bi-pod.  It, at least for me, is easier to move and turn on a target and with less movement without a bi-pod than with one.  Th only time I use one is when we are shooting a PD town.   If you absolutely must have one than I would recommend home made sticks.

No recommendations on the light kits.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

As far as red dot scopes are concerned, this one you posted up JohnP looks interesting. Did you have to buy those high rings seperate or did they come with the scope? Right now on my m-4 style rifle I have a nikon 3x9 on it and would like to try a dot scope. I always seem to end up wanting to carry my shotgun instead of the rifle because of the terrain around here being so thick. Overall what do you think of your dot scope compared to others?
                                   Thanks,

I like the Simmons Aetec 2.8x10 - 44mm.
As for a bi-pod, I agree with JohnP, I use cross sticks. These are homemade, get (2) 5/8" hardwood dowel rods 4ft. long.
Paint them olive drab. Then fasten them together with 2 short, about 10", black ball bungees, I have purchased these at Wally Mart and Gander Mountain. Wrap the bungees, about 2 or 3 times, until fairly snug. Position 1 bungee about 1ft. from each end for use as a short walking stick, then slide both bungees together where you want the sticks to cross for shooting. They tighten up when the sticks are spread and hold well, but are easily adjustable for height and uneven ground.

Jeb - You have a choice of either the high or low rings when you order the scope.  It also comes with a 2X doubler, which I haven't used so I can't comment on that.  Not only does it have the red dot but it also comes with a selector button that will switch it over to a green dot.  I have found the green dot a bit easier to pick up the target than the red.  However the green may not works as well for your terrain - works great out here in the desert.  I bought mine from Camera Land for $149. and they paid the shipping.  I may try it on my TC and shotgun if all works out I may end up with three of them.  I can shoot 1'' at 100 yards, more than sufficient for coyotes.

I put one of those Vortex scopes on order.   Thanks for the tip, John.

I Think this might even be a good addition to a shotgun even here. You have the option of switching dot colors , long eye relief, and quick target aquisition. And I think hte green dot would work very well here because of woods condions in winter.   I think it a wise choice Semp.  Jimmie

Your welcome Semp.  Hope you like it.  It took me a bit to get use to it, but now that I am it's working out ok.  I took it off the AR and put it on my TC, just need to get out to the range and try it out.

I'm going to put it on my AR to begin with.  Then later maybe move it to my SBE.  I've been wanting a red dot for some time but couldn't justify the dollars for a ACOG or Aimpoint.

Semp - You get that scope yet?

I agree with JohnP a bipod has cost me a shot or two.  With all the options you mentioned if your gona use it for just a hunting rifle theres not alot of need for the light kit.  I put a palm shelf grip and a 1" stock extender on my AR and it made a world of difference I'm a big guy and the length of pull on an AR just wasn't comfortable to me now I love it.  That was my pride and joy for a long time sold it to buy a gun safe and VTR.

I've been gone for several days, sorry so late in responding.  Yep, I got the scope and sighted it in.  Works just as advertised.  I think it will be just the ticket for close cover.  Being able to keep both eyes open is a big plus.

Good, I'm always hesitant to recommend something in fear of it not living up to expectations.
