I was reading about red foxes and learned something new....according to this they were imported here to the colonies...I always assumed they were natives!:

"There are five species of fox that can be found throughout North America, the most popular of which are the red fox and gray fox. The red fox was introduced to North America during the 1700's for sport hunting and has since become the most commonly hunted type of fox. The red fox lives in underground burrows throughout forests, grasslands, mountains and deserts. Able to reach speeds of up to 45 m.p.h., the red fox provides a fun challenge to those who choose to hunt it. Fox hounds are able to pick up the scent of a red fox fairly easily, as it is stronger than most other fox scents. Once spotted, the red fox will try to outrun the pack of fox hunting hounds until one or the other eventually tires out."

Yep I actually read an article on that several years ago.
Brought here for sport and now I cant think of the name they gave it. But it's so old they even used it some some old cartoons.
