have an area that holds 7 or 8 coyotes(have seen).has been called by others with rabbit distress.can set up with wind in my face about 300 yds from bedding area on a well used travel lane that they use to get to where i think they hunt.thought to start with either a group howl(e caller) or a few lonesome howels,(hand calls)then some pup distress, and woodpecker distress.this will be only my 6th stand.newbie for sure, but i thought that i would try something that nobody else has and also a different area that no one has hunted.this is a fantastic web site.been lurking and reading and trying to learn.now it is time to step up.thanks guys in advance for any insight.....mike    forgot to mention this will be morning at first light with wsw winds at 15mph and 0 to 10 degree temps,if it matters.

I like starting my stands this time of year with 3 lonesome howls about 1 second apart.  I wait 5 minutes, and either do some distress or a challenge howl next.  It just matters how I am feeling at the time.  Good luck and let us know if ya get anything.

hand call user primarily, but if you gotta use an e-caller, there ain't nothing that sounds better than a Wildlife Tech

not much happened, but i had a great time.found 2 sets of tracks from last nite.probally wiyhin 200 yds of where i made a stand.one of them has to be a male, could see where he peed and it was off to the side of the tracks.found a couple of places where they had been looking for mice on the power line right of way.followed them for 600 yds or so and they went into the area where i think they spend their days.have found tracks every time that i have been there.at this point i would be happy to get busted by one.not going to give up though,i think i might have what some people would call an addiction (and loving it).family is tired of what they call noise, but the dogs like it.some day it will happen.today i am one step closer....thanks .....mike

Welcome to the site Mike.

Dont be afraid to change up your stands and thier approach.
Common mistake is coyotes coming in, no one see's them, so everybody starts talking about where they want to go next. Main time the Coyotes are standing out there looking at ya, saying...."I knew it!"
Get in get out....tread lightly.

Another tip....dont feel like you have to use every single call you own on one stand.
If you do get busted, you just showed the coyote all your cards. They will eventually learn what sounds come from Mike in the bush and they will avoid them.

Keep us posted.
