Got this in email from a friend, along with several more images. It looks like extreme southwest US to me. But double antlers? seriously?...

I have seen a buck with a double set of antlers. Strange looking to say the least. The one we saw was in velvet when he was hit on the highway. It looked like the pad that the antler grew from had been split. Dont know if he did it rubbing against a fence wire or something. I do know I would have liked to have seen him in full glory. What he had wasnt near as big as the one in the pic and broke up a little on impact. I bet polished up that set is wicked in the rut.

Wonder what he has going on with his neck. Some kind of growth down the side of his face and bulging along his neck
Don't bring shame to our sport.

He died for dipshits too.

That makes sense, a split antler base. I never thought of that. That little extra doo hickey I assumed was either a drop tine or big strip of velvet falling off.

You can click the images and make them larger.

My cousin killed a bull elk with a third antler.  It is a huge bull, one of the largest Roosevelts ever taken in WA state, but Boone & Crockett won't accept it because it has the extra main beam. He killed it with a bow and I think P&Y won't accept it either.  It is a typical 6x6 with an extra beam 23 inches long with three tines on it.  It  makes the book with the entire extra beam deducted.  FWIW, if the extra beam was touching either main beam, B&C would accept it.  But there is a skinny strip of hide and hair between the regular antler base and the third beam, so it is not allowed.  B&C's loss, because it is an outstanding bull.

The buck in these photos is really an odd one!

The game warden would done have that one on the wall here in Kentuk.

It is a rare occurence but it does happen. I killed a 8-pointer three years ago and he had a point about 1-inch right in the middle of his skull. Taxidermist said more than likely would have been a third main beam next year but he didnt make it that far.
