Just learned this afternoon that my two boys have been drawn for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Youth Only Gun Deer at Chaparral WMA. The last Youth hunt the boys were drawn by TPWD was in 2007 at the Kerr WMA.

The Chaparral Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 15,200-acre research and management area located 8 miles west of Artesia Wells...... South Texas!
HUGE deer call this patch of ground home, and hunting is by draw only. This particular WMA receives numerous draw applications every year, as it's known as one of
Texas "cream of the crop" for deer hunters as it's within the "Golden Triangle".

I've been submitting applications every year since 1989 for the Chap..... and have never been drawn.

The boys are excited. I'm wondering how good the hunting will be as we've been in a serious drought......
I think they'll be able to get on a deer, but with the drought conditions the deer unfortunately will not be anywhere near their prime condition. Still, we'll make the best of it!

No lost interest as we always find a place to hunt. Getting drawn for a TPWD hunt (especially for the Chap) is like winning the lottery!

Okanagan

Sounds like super fun, and sounds like he knows what he has drawn enough to appreciate it.  We will look forward to the story, how ever it turns out.

There a draw I've put in for for most of the past 20 years...  maybe next year!
