My son Colt Rode up to where we hunt this morning to sit a fresh cut hayfield and it payed off for him, We have killed many critters off of it over the years from Yotes to deer and turkey's and a bit of small game too, It's been our own lil piece of heaven having this so close to home. I cant tell ya the number of coyotes we have walked up on here but we have hunted and killed our share of em.

Last night Colt asked me if He could take my REM 700P in 338 Lapua mag and as I laughed I had to tell him that was a man's rifle and he prolly shouldnt fool with it but he laughed as he walked away with it and he texted me this morning and informed me he "Got it Bloody for me"

We have a gap in the fence we always access the field from as he eased out into the hay field he looked down to the far end and could see two Yote's out millin about so he belly crawled into the field so he could get to a high spot so he could shoot off the Bi-pod and a rear bag (We regularly shoot out to 700yds in this field so he know's the yardage from about anywhere in it) He guessed the range to be between 450-475 and dialed up the dope and let it fly, at first he thought he missed as he recovered from the recoil he saw two Yotes leaving the field pretty quick he actually texted me at this point and told me he missed one then he decided to go look for any sign that he hit it and she was laying dead right where he shot her, the third one he didnt see.

This is what a quartering shot from a 338 Lapua with a 300gr. SMK will do to a critter at what he later lasered to be 478yds.

That's my Boy :bowingsmilie: :bowingsmilie:

Looks like he handled that rifle and cartridge just fine.  Looks like he had enough gun too! :laf: Congrats to the young man for a fine shot.  And too his proud dad for teaching him how to shoot.

Jim
You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

Carolina Coyote

Great shooting, with shots like that the Seal Team Six will be drafting him.  :bowingsmilie: cc

Hawks Feather

Nice shot and one less small game eater around.  As for the .338, I am just glad that it was him pulling the trigger and not me since I hate recoil.

Thanks Guy's, The kid (Kid at 25) has proven himself time and time again to be a good hunter and a hell of a shot.

Riverboss, It's a Leupold MK4 6.5-20x50 LR/T with a M.I.R.S rail base with 20% of elevation built into it.

Hawks Feather the recoil is very mild, less than a 308. But the concussion of of the Badger Ordanance Brake is pretty rough on the forehead after a few shot's...I equate it too getting poped in the forehead with a tack hammer
