I woke up to a balmy -22 F this morning. No new snow though. It must be the global warming. MI VHNTR

I am worried about the woodcock already nesting here on my place. She had four eggs last time I bumped her.It was a total accident I found her nest. She just happened to put it in the fencerow and the storms we've had the past few weeks have played heck with te fences. We had enough to completely cover her up if she stayed put.  I will check her from a distance in the next few days and see if she made it or lost them. Jimmie

We got about 10 inch's here in central Kentucky with rain sleet and freezing rain
Looking forward to April 12th Turkey season :bowingsmilie:

Any news on the woodcock Jimmy ?  If she did loose them, do they lay more than once ?   I'll have to do a search on it.

Knowing nothing about these birds but realizing they are a couple hours south of me in Kentucky,, Isn't it still about a month early for birds to lay eggs??

I haven't checked her yet. And as far as I know it is at about this time they are usually doing their mating rituals. I heard the males in late february when we had some warm day's. I've know there have been as many as three diferent mated pairs here in the past but this is the ifrst time I ever came up on one nesting that I knew of.

If she is still on them , they should hatch in 3 more weeks I think. Jimmie

Thanks!! Just wondering out loud.

She was sitting tight and pretty today. She is hard to see with the cover and her natural cammo. Thank goodness for the big black eye of hers. Now we just wait a few weeks and see if they hatch after all tey have been through. Jimmie

Thats pretty neat, thanks Jimmy.  I'm always amazed how mother nature works.
