do coyotes get vocal at daytime like they do at night?

FinsnFur

My belief is, it depends on whats going on. But normally, "no".

Some people will tell you coyotes make no vocals what so ever during the day. I have witnessed coyotes howling at trains here several times during the day.

Coyotes will howl in the daylight, especially if you instigate it.   A coyote willing to talk in the dayilght is very killable: getting him to talk is where the experience on a howler comes in.

i usualy hunt at night n they get very vocal at night, they bark, howl n yip alot. i have not been out to much in the daytime but im thinking about doing some.

I've heard coyotes howl during the day but it's usually just a single howl.  Now right before dark is different, I've heard em howling alot more the last half hour of daylight.

Yeah, the last  half hour of daylight is a good time to hear them. I always hear them during archery season just before dark. I hear howls and barks.

Here in WV I have only heard coyotes vocalize twice during the daytime.  When I went to the LBL hunt in Kentucky they seemed to be much more vocal in the daytime as we heard them several times.  I don't know what the difference is.  I'm being told that they are very quiet now here in March because they are having pups and don't want to give away their den location???      Seems like I have more questions than answers.  That's what makes it so challenging.

You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

The day howls you heard at the LBL Jim, was just Brent :eyebrow:

I have made them howl in the daytime though it is easier in the summer months when the puppies are almost grown. I got em going a couple of times in the middle of the day and almost 100 Deg. out. :eyebrownod:
my buddy Nick has been with me on that before Golfertrout, you now him.
We have shot em howling in the summer months right before dark. :eyebrownod:
If it will stop rainning for a while and the wind will give me a break I will try it out with you and frogman and see what happens :yoyo:
It looks lik Fri. or Sat right now. :iroll:

We get them going all the time during the day. Seems over the last few years it is allot more common than it had been in the past. We have had several coyotes that just raised all heck with us for 45-60 min. One was even setting in the middle of a cut corn field right behind a farm house. Seems as the Coyote population grows the more vocal they seem to be, IMO this is do to more coyotes in the areas and territory's shrinking, and more competition for food and good territory's. For a couple weeks this fall I had to groups that would put on a howling demo every night at each other back in fourth. One group behind the house and one across the road. Man was that fun!

IMO.... What you heard was true, I have found that at this time of year coyotes seem to be less vocal due to denning season. But when pressured inside that core area they will get very vocal in defending that area.

i never hear them in daylight unless its within a half hour or less before dark or just after daylight.

I think of it like this, they say that a coyote is mostly a nite hunter. I do not always think this is true but......If I had worked hard all night and someone kept on bugging me saying" hey AL" over and over and over again I might try and ignore them but sooner or later I am going to yell at them and come at them to shut em up.
I do a lot of howling and in my mind that is what I try to do to them yotes. And sometimes I get lucky and they get mad. :eyebrownod: I have done this at 4:00 in the afternoon 2:00 pm (in log book). I do not see it much in the early hours of the day but I dont howl much then either.
