Stumbled upon a nice crossing

I barely missed a deer while approaching this bridge a couple nights ago. And in the last month I've seen a total of 3 coyotes cross in the exact path.

Decided to take a closer look at things this morning.

This is going to be a doozy to try and set up near, because the only way in is from the South East and our winter winds usually come from the North West. Sounds ideal don't it?
Problem is the river is in front of you going in, so you walk through what your gonna call.

Turn left...goin in

Facing the River Plenty of scat along the edges of this frontal road.

Back towards the river...facing out

I see what time they are crossing there it is the same time YOU were there. I put a black arrow where the coyote is located. You may not have noticed him there before becouse you were busy drawing the red lines. I hope this helps

The coyote in the pic is hard to see I almost missed seeing him myself but caught movement right before turning off the computer. I think he maybe laying back down in the origanal pic. Glad I could help.

Jim,

No Problem…Just walk in backwards… that way any coyotes that should happen to see you will think you’re leaving.

BTW< It’s a wonder any coyote in it’s right mind would even consider going near such a place… with all those arrows hanging in the sky and red lines everywhere.

I would setup in the woods not in the river LOL (sorry)

I think you would be alright with walking parrallel with the river and then setting up 20 or 30yds in. They are used to smelling people going up and down the river and from the other side.

Yeah but they may not have ever smelled anything like THIS, Rich.

I failed to mention there's another river directly behind me in the first two pics. The two river branches are approx 350 yards apart and run parallel to themselves for several miles.

Brent gave me a pretty good idea.....(this is going to cost me, I'm sure) ...of entering the woodline on the left of the last pic, and going in directly between the two rivers. That puts river behind me, river in front of me and highway to me back.

We'll see how it goes.

I tried to get a satellite shot of the area, and it must be too far "boondock" cause there's nothing available.

After seein a better out look of the area it looks like an area I hunt sometimes. I would still hold close to a bank south side mostly. The area I hunted like this the boat was the best option and worked.

Going in by boat on the fartherest point would seem to be my best option. Also if there is more property along the river you could get to them also.

We have TVA land around the TN river and we hunt all of it with a boat. Access is one reason and the other is we dont have to walk through our callin area.

80gal/min would be more accurate.
I did consider boat when I first looked at things the other day....but this is the Wisconsin River and the current is horrendous. It's one of the fastest running in the state, and she claims many a lives each year with absolutely no conscience.
It'd be impossible to do without making a lot of racket...with a motor. And I dont think they get too used to overly hearing motors stop right in this area...One, there's nothing to fish for except cat and not a lot of folks do it in this spot. Two....the amount of anchor it would take to hold the boat is what keeps the amount of fishing traffic to a minimum...no one wants to hassle it.

Earlier you said the wind comes from the NW. From looking at the topo you'll be setting up directly up wind?

Why wouldn't you just cross the southern most bridge. go east a ways & setup where you can still see the the bank for when they try to get a snoot load of ya. That is if your calling 'em & not trying to ambush'em.

Actually that was the plan.
I was down there early this morning and set up on the East side for close to an hour, then I packed up and went over to the southern corner of the West side.

Found some more scat and I found a live 22-250 hollow point laying beside a Bic cigerette lighter along side the river.

Someone beat me to it.
