I SAW THIS MEGA SNAPPING TURTLE FINISHING A NEST WHERE IT LAID ITS EGGS....HUGE TURTLE AND DID NOT SEEM THE LEAST  BIT AFRAID OF ME..THE BIG ONES REMIND ME OF DINOSAURS:

Great photo’s…  amazing critters indeed.

I have a snapper that comes into my yard every year in June to lay her eggs.  The amazing thing is I live on top of a steep ridge overlooking the Tennessee River. To reach her annual nesting site this old girl has to traverse at least 1000 feet, through dense timber and thickets, all the while climbing to an elevation of over 200' above river level.  She has not missed a year in nearly 20 years, usually digging her nesting hole within several feet of last year’s location. The sad thing is, other than to satisfy her species natural instincts, her efforts have been for nothing. Either the eggs are dug up by roving skunks and raccoons or else they fail to hatch. Several times, after she gets done with her deed, I have boxed her up and took her back to the river to be released.  Your photo’s reminded me…  it’s about time for her to make her appearance.

Interesting...they are definiteley throwbacks to an ancient time.
