Tennessee Elk Tag for Auction on eBay
7/8/2009

Tennessee’s first elk hunt in 150 years will be a unique one. One fall elk hunting tag will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on eBay from July 16-25.

Only five lucky hunters are allowed to participate. The other four permits have been drawn using a lottery system, according to The Outdoor Wire.

"This hunt is one of the rewards for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's hard work in helping to restore a wild elk herd that was missing in Tennessee for a very long time," said David Allen, president and CEO of the Montana-based conservation organization. "We hope our supporters will register on eBay and bid enthusiastically as a continuation of our support for this program."

The hunt will be held at east Tennessee's North Cumberland WMA Oct. 19-23. All five hunters are invited to a primitive elk camp on the property of Terry Lewis near North Cumberland WMA Elk Viewing Tower. Sponsors for the camp include: the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Wildlife Federation and Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association.

The winners of the four lottery-drawn tags are Craig Gardner of Parrotsville, Charles Ray Flynn of Rockford, Ronald L. Woodard of Oak Ridge and Jeffrey L. Moses of Cleveland.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit Tennessee's elk restoration program.
