I just received a phone call from my roofer informing me that a close friend of mine from my Fire Dept. days was the victim of a home invasion today. The two invaders were posing as Ky. Utilities employees or somebody like that.  There were shots fired, but I don't know any details yet.  Please pray for my friend, Dave Norris, who retired as an Asst. Chief on the Lexington Fire Dept..  He was a fearless fire fighter, and one of the straightest shooters you could ever ask to meet.  He about choked me to death on the nozzle with him on several fires. I'm hoping he shot the bastards.  :argh:

This is all the local news shows as of right now about the home invasion:

Font Size:    A bizarre home invasion in Lexington, leaves a man hospitalized.

Authorities say two men, claiming to be utility workers, knocked on the door of a home on Ridepoint Run, in Lexington, and then shot a man inside.

The search is on for the suspects.

The victim was taken to UK hospital, where the extent of his injuries is not clear at this hour.

Here is another news report from a different source.  Needless to say, this incident has me shook up.  Dave and I were stationed at the same station for over 8 years.

A elderly Lexington homeowner was taken to UK Hospital Tuesday morning after possibly being shot during a home invasion robbery.

The incident happened at about 9 a.m. at a home on Ridgepoint Run off Wilson Downing Road. Police say two black male suspects pretending to be utility workers forced their way into the home. Police say one of the men was wearing a green vest that they say made him look like a utility worker

Police say the homeowner suffered a head injury, but were unsure if he had been shot in the head or had been struck in the head. They say the victim was conscious when he was transported to the hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.

So far, there is no word of any arrests in the case or if police have any suspects

There are mixed stories on the local media, but here is the latest I have read.  Thanks to all for your prayers.  Dave Norris is one great guy.

A retired Lexington fire battalion chief was treated at UK Hospital Tuesday morning after being injured during a home invasion robbery.

The incident happened at about 9 a.m. at a home on Ridgepoint Run off Wilson Downing Road. Police say two black male suspects pretending to be utility workers forced their way into the home. Police say one of the men was wearing a green vest that they say made him look like a utility worker.

Once inside, the two suspects attacked the victim, David Norris, 72, hitting him in the head. Police originally said they were unsure if Norris had been been shot in the head or had been struck in the head. They say Norris was conscious when he was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Norris retired as Lexington Fire Battalion Chief of Second Platoon in January 1991. He served in several capacities with the Lexington Fire Department, including a Major on Third Platoon and a Captain in the Training Division.

So far, there is no word of any arrests in the case or if police have any suspects. Police are also not sure if the suspects took anything from the home.

Evidently my buddy is going to be o.k.. He just got home from the hospital and sent me the following brief explanation.  They obviously meant to kill him. I will most likely get more details tomorrow.  I hope they catch the sorry bastards.  Here is Dave's reply:

Briefly Albert, two BLACKS invited themselves in, shot me in the head with the biggest bore pistol ever, rifled the house and then duck taped my hands behind my back and duck taped a plastic bag over my head. That alone is about a 3 minute death sentence.
Other than that, I'm well, how are you?

Wow.
Two black guys knocked on my door and there'd a gun in my hand when I answered it. But then again two black guys around here would be a rather peculiar situation.

Thankfully he's ok AL.

I got a feeling were going to see more and more of this kinda stuff the way our economy is.

Glad your friend is going to be ok Possumal.  It's unfortunate, but these days never answer
the door to someone you don't know without a gun in your hand, and the realization that
you may need to use it.

I don't know for sure at this point, but I think there is a good chance that Dave either knew one of these characters or thought he did.
