Hawks Feather

Well, when this trip started I had hopes of getting a shot (camera) of one of these and today was the day.  There had been several opportunities, but they were usually too far out in the field for a good picture.  That coupled with their speed had made it impossible for me.  I decided that today would be the day and dressed in my jeans, long sleeved shirt, and boots.  I also had my camo hat, but in the end would not need it.  While driving I saw some, that while out a ways in a field, looked like I might able to possibly get close enough for a picture.  There was an old creek bed that wound around the field and came close to where they were.  I stopped down the road out of sight of the herd and had Becky get behind the wheel.  I had her drive slowly, all the time being watched by the herd, and quickly let me out under the cover of a small tree.  Becky drove on so they would not notice that the car had stopped and I quickly dropped into the dry creek bed.  I moved slowly and would only peek over the edge to let me know that they were still grazing and hadn’t become spooked and run.  I got closer and closer and finally knew that I was really close.  I very slowly peeked over the edge with the camera in the ready position and they spotted me.  Those things are quicker than I had ever realized.  But, I was lucky in that one of the smaller ones FROZE right in front on me.  I quickly pushed the shutter and with that sound it was GONE.  I am happy to share my story and the picture of the following Big Game with all of you.  I was close enough that you can even see the flies on it.
