Bills Custom Calls

Just wondering if hunting the pine thicket is much different then hunting along open feilds and trying to call a coyote out of hardwood timber.

The pines are NO HUNTING But the coyotes are there I got permission to hunt across the Township Road from there.

I love hunting pines!!!! If I see pines on the property Iam hunting I go straight to them. Coyotes love pines because there are so many mice there. Coyotes will often bed down close to a pine thicket. I just re-read your post and see you don't have access to the pines. If you can get in ear shot of the closes thick cover by the pines do it.

About how old or the pines?

this pine thicket has been there for many years i learned of this place around 1972 and they were big then so since before my time maybe.lets just say a long time

this is a private camp ground with no hunting and if I get the chance getting permission to hunt around this place would be no problem....
Thank you

Bill

Find you a saddle in a ridge above the pines and have at it. You can work this with elevation with not much problem as long as the wind is in your face. A partner isn't a bad idea for covering th back door just in case. Jimmie

My all time favorite setups are in old pines like the one you described joining a thicket or hard woods. There are usually well worn trails in them and if you set up right beside of a trail  they will run right in your lap. It is usually darker in the pines so you blend in well and they feel secure there. A coyote looks its coolest when darting back in forth through the pines we call it ghosting. Been trying to get some footage in some big pines only have one so far in the pines and not to great.

Since you cant get access in the pines next best thing is beside them like Jimmy is talking about setting up.

Hope you have good luck and keep us posted because I want pics

Well I am going out today with badtothebone[Rudy] and the one spot has about a 5 acre spot of pines backed into hardwoods.
