O.K. so it isn't Todd, but the guy does live in Alaska and has a .454.

That is way too close!

What is the smallest (caliber) bear gun one should pack in Alaska?

They were quick to list the attractants but what I can't understand is why these people don't realize the #1 problem might be "encroachment of wildlife habitat by humans."       I'm thinking the bears were there before the humans in most of these areas.

I am glad he didn't get hurt too.  :congrats:

I bought mine for that and Pray I never have to use it.

The problem in that area in most opinions, is not more an encroachment problem then it is a mismanagement problem by the local Fish and Feathers.  That area is restricted because they say there's not many bears there, but it has the most encounters, bear tags are always closed in that area because of to many defense of life and property shootings, and man your more likely to see bears on the side of the road down there then ya are a moose, but hey there's no bears in the area.  :innocentwhistle: Heck there's one popular area down there to fish, but it sure makes me nervous to go with all the bears ya see.

I think the minimum carry up here on consensus if ya asked would be a 44 or a 12 gauge.

Thanks, Todd.  Me and the missus are planning to visit your great state someday, hopefully as early as next year if all works out OK.  That gives me an excuse to upgrade my .357.
