While hunting public land in the east and some 4wheelers go by what do you do? Do you sit quietly for 15-30 mins before calling again? Do you move to a new location, if so how far? Also if people have been there running rabbit dogs or coon dogs is it productive to hunt the area the next day? If not how long should a person wait?

Not worried about dogs from the day before or coon dogs but the fourwheelers driving by would worry me. I would say get off the road farther and if you couldnt hunt it when they are not there. If you cant ,just dont hunt it.

Welcome to the site redgeep87. I have seen lots of coyote sign in areas that are dedicated ATV areas. The answer to your question will depend on what they are used to. Hunt it. Give it a fair chance and post your results. RP

THO Game Calls

I hunt a lot of public land that is used by mountain bikers, hikers, ATV's and snow mobiles.  Two things right up front.

1) I try to get away from the major trails.  This solves a lot of the problems.

2) If I see an ATV or Snow mobile chasing game, I get the registration number if I can and report them.  Over time, that too will solve some of the problems.

But when I see or hear something come buy, I stop calling, and wait a bit.   Then I resume calling just like nothing ever happened.  Coyotes in the brush on public land are used to intrusions, and I really don't think it bothers them that much here.   They may run away for a bit, but they are not leaving the country.  At least here.   But I want to qualify what I say because the areas I hunt are very very thick and the machines are not going to get off the trails for the most part.  I think here, the more they are used to stuff, the less it bothers them, which is not say they are not warry of it, it just does not put them into high gear for the next country.

In wide open places, like on farms, when the snow mobiles and ATV's come out to play, I go home.  They are not confinded to the trails in the fields, and since they are running around everywhere having fun, I don't feel comfortable shooting.  In the winter, I can usually get in two or three hours early before they come out so we share the land and everyone is happy.

Now all this is based on the east, and I know nothing about the west or how things work out there, but for me, I have not seen the ATV's, Mountain Bikers or Snow Mobiles bother them unless they chase them.
