Yeah, a 200lb coyote. While scouting Oak Ridge wma for an upcoming deer hunt, I ran across a fella that told me about a 200lb coyote he just seen.  :shock2: Now, in Tennessee a 200lb deer is huge, but a coyote?  I had to ask a few questions.
Q..... Did ya get a good look at him?
A..... Oh yeah, he was huge.
Q.....Was he in a field?
A..... Nope, he was running down the road in front of me.
Q.....Ya say he was 200lbs!
A.....Twice as big as my shepherd.
Don't get me wrong, he was a nice enough fella, but I'm not for sure I want to hunt the same holler as him. This means that Oak Ridge has a radioactive coyote that I've got to try and call.
This is the problem hunting public land. You never know what's going to happen. If this guy walks under my stand will I look like a 300lb squirrel?

:innocentwhistle: When you live half way between Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant and the Oak Ridge National Labs (where the atomic bomb was invented) nothing would surprise me. :laf:

Thats usually what it's like when we talk to someone here thats never hunted let alone hunted coyotes.
If they see a deer, it was the biggest deer they have ever seen in their life.
If they see a coyote, it was the biggest coyote they have ever seen in their life.
Etc.

Very comical to say the least.

That's often the case. That's also how rumors get started, human nature I guess.

As coyote hunters, we sometimes find landowners that claim they have coyotes running everywhere simply because they hear them group howling at night. These people don't mean to exaggerate they just don't understand that a pair of mature coyotes and a few yearling pups can sound like a larger group. More often than not we find the "several dozen coyotes" to actually be 3-4.

vayotehowler...  Yep, that squirrel pic is priceless.

Carolina Coyote

This is so true, I carried my wife's youngest brother down to Georgia to hunt this weekend and after picking him up after the morning hunt on Friday we were cruising around at 10:00 o'clock and as we entered a big field he pointed across the field and said look at that deer over there, I looked and immediately recognized it was a coyote, jumped out of the car and grabbed my rifle but he ran before I could get a shot , but if I had not been along with him I wonder just how big that Coyote would have been?  :eyebrow: cc
