New squirrel rifle…

Well maybe not… but some of the places Bop and I coyote hunt contain a pretty fair population of a much bigger and meaner varmint... wild hogs (or as some people prefer to call them Russian Boar).
I'm not into the catch and release program nor is it likely you will see me hunting hogs with catch dogs and then wading into the frenzy just to stick a knife into the ticked off tusker. Ain't going to do it, no way... no sir'ree!

Instead I've got just the medicine for those wayward pigs....   the Marlin 444, one fun gun to shoot! 


50 yard target:  1 fowler (right) and then 5 shots for group. 


Any of you gents need a back up @ the LBL just holler...

I would say that should get the job done, That is one bad round for sure. I dont see me stickin any with a knife either.

Very nice!!  I had a 450 that looked alot like that one that I used ffor bear.

Yea, I think that will take down about any squirrel or hog.  How is your shoulder feeling?  I can't really see, but is that one ported?

Hidehunter... thanks. I've never bear hunted but I bet the 450 is a great bear stopper.

Jerry, this is one of the older models with the micro-groove barrel and cross bolt hammer block safety. The barrel is not ported.  It came from the factory with a dinky little hard rubber butt pad that did little to curtail felt recoil, if anything it made it feel worse.  I removed the factory chunk o’ brick and installed a nice soft Limbsaver recoil pad. This is an excellent add-on which makes it a whole lot easier on old shoulders when the hammer drops. The 444 can still be a handful, with the Limbsaver and full house loads I would estimate felt recoil is now comparable to most 12 gauge semi -auto shotguns shooting 3” shells. 

I haven’t shot any timber rats with the 444 but I found it will absolutely ruin a big plump groundhogs day.

I had one in my hands when I was in Alaska last month and they are really cool, but man are they pricey!
