One of Dante's friends shot his first deer yesterday out behind his house.  He called Dante last night to tell him the story and that his dad had it hanging and what to do next.  Listening to their conversation, I heard Dante say, "You need to gut it.  Go on YouTube and search for . . ."   :doh2:

Well, at least the kid had enough sense to call someone that could help.  Everyone needs to start somewhere.

Congrats to the young man. But yeah, a little planning before hand was definitely in order!

Congratulations to the young fella.  :yoyo: :yoyo: As time goes by he will learn more. Especially in the planning stages.  :laf: :laf:

I had sort of been mentoring him for deer, and I believe his dad has done some small game hunting (I had thought he had done some deer hunting also, but I guess not).
Anyway, Dante and I stopped by, skinned and quartered it, and then gave them a quick lesson on how I butcher a deer.  It was really good to see that he and his brother were interested in it, and their mom and dad were looking forward to cooking and eating it.

Everybody starts learning somewhere.  Next time they will have a headstart on what to do when the deer goes down.  Probably no more delay in gutting than a wait and difficult blood trail would cause.
