My grandson, Josh, has used one of my techniques with good results 4 times in the last week.  It involves hanging your ecaller 75 to 100 yds away, preferably on your way to your sit down spot, and face it generally towards your spot.  After getting set up, start a challenge howl battle between the caller (In his case the FX-5) and you and your howler.  After the second or third challenge howls from your howler, stick strictly with the ecaller from that point on.  After a couple more challenge howls from the ecaller, switch to a coyote fight if you have it on your ecaller, or a coyote pup distress.  Mix in a few coyote death cries, and there is a good chance you'll have a big male show up to stop the ass kicking contest.  Josh has killed 4 nice coyotes in the last week with this technique. Pictures will be posted if he ever gets them to me. (lol)  In my opinion, this is a good example of how to use your ecaller to make a realistic scenario that will reap you some good results.

Do hunters w/ e-callers even know how to use a howler?  :shrug:   Kinda defeats the purpose of having an e-caller.  :iroll:

Oh I know; they have a second FoxPro setting w/ them to challenge back.  :doh2:

:roflmao:  :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Hey Al, did the boy come up w/ that scenario on his own.  That's pretty smart thinking.  ;yes;

Maybe I should get an e-caller so I'll have someone to coyote talk to while I'm out there.  :eyebrow:  :laf:

vvarmitr :  I don't know about the second setting you are talking about. Maybe you are talking about setting two different callers on different channels.  Old Josh has been doing well for the past month or so.  He will be thinking up some stuff on his own. First though, I need him to do a better job of picture taking and getting them to me.  :biggrin:

You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

Now that makes alot of sense to me. I would have never though that one up. Thanks for the tip!

I actually do that quite often....only minus the coyote fight.
My theory is that a coyote will more often then not have your location pin pointed within a few yards the minute you howl.

Then I wait a bit and switch over to the e-caller so that the attention is off me, PLUS it gives the perception that what ever is over there is moving around  :eyebrow:

Bopeye, you big rascal, don't be calling me a yank!   :eyebrownod: :laf:   As a little follow up on this thread, I feel like the coyote fight is the main element to make the neighborhood coyotes think there is not only two coyotes in their territory, but the first one who issued the challenge howl has moved down to the other one's location.  In my opinion, the big old males don't like any ass kicking going on in their territory unless they are doing it.  It gets their attention focused on the fight, allowing the hunter with his howler to more or less fade from memory.  Anyway, it has worked a lot for me and it is working for grandson, Josh.  He finally got up here with the memory card out of his camera, so I will put a picture of his male in here.  It was his first big male, and he is one happy guy. He weighed 46 lbs. and was really a beautiful yote.

Sorry Al, I was taking a cheap shot at e-call owners to pester 'em.

Ya know Al iffen you had a Minaska caller as well  it wouldn't sound like Wiley was running back & forth answering his on challenge howles.   :shrug:

Oops! :doh2: I forgot your a Fox Pro Pro Staffer Staffer :roflmao:             :innocentwhistle:

vvarmitr :  I thought your post was funny, but I wouldn't use a Minaska any differently from the Foxpro.  The idea is to make it sound like two coyotes, challenge howling from 100 yds or so apart, and then putting all the action where the ecaller is.  I haven't heard many coyotes challenge howl each other from two feet away.  :hahaha: :laf:  If I wanted all the action to happen where the ecaller is located, I'd use the Scorpion with an extra speaker and work up a real good stereo sound with Goldwave, and control each speaker with the remote.  :biggrin: :biggrin:
