Curiosity killed the cat........Hang something in the cage like a can of sardines hanging from the partially opened tab with fishing line. Hang something above the trap that will blow in the wind and get their attention, Feather, or a Polly bag from the grocery store. This will get the bandit as well.

MY opinion....two actually, (preface:  I don't know your plans  on where you want to take them to let them go. You may have a very good idea.)
That being said:  IMO
1.  You might want to check the regulations in your area about transporting trapped critters.
2.  I don't recommend taking them to another area as it may introduce disease etc.......and/or put undo hardship on them or the area they would be transplanted to.  They may not be able to make it in another area for any number of reasons.  Just my thoughts.

Jim has a good idea of how to eliminate.  And I  agree with alscalls about capture.

Can of sardines will get any of them ,but don't put it in the cage.  Make a small depression for the bait and then place the trap over it.  Keeps the first critter from eating it up.  If you think a visual attractor will help you can hang that in the back of the cage.    I just grab the bb gun when I hear the can rattle,  when I lived in town anyway.

Good idea!........Thats why I said just Partially opened I usually just barely crack it open and hang it up so they gotta work for it. I like your idea I will try that one myself. :eyebrownod:
Catfood works too it is just harder too tie a knot in.....
