Kurtis didn't go with me today.He told me he walked to much yesterday and his legs hurt,so I left him at the
house,and he missed out on alot of activity.
I headed for the corn field where we run into our amish buddy on Saturday and on the way there 3 deer walked ahead of me just staying out about 50 to 100 yards it was a good 1/2 mile walk.I am about 250 yards from the edge of the corn field when I hear the gobbler. From the sounds of it he is on the other edge of the field that puts about 400 yards between us and lots of cover.I drop ove the top of the hill and slowly walk at the wood line
and that puts me lower then the corn field.By this time one of the 3 deer are out in the field with the tom and he is going nuts one gobble after another.That tells me the tom is staying on the other edge of the field and it is giving me time to get there.Now the other 2 deer hit the field and now tom is on the move and I am within 100 yards of where I want to set up.Tom is getting closer to me and forces me to hurry and into the brush further off the corn then I wanted to be.I can't see the feild but I could still get a shot if I can bring him to me.
I sit down by a big old stump  and hit the box call.Tom answers we call back and fouth but I can hear he is going away from me and he is now in the woods going straight away.I move to a better place so I can see the field.
Tom kept on talking and I keep calling.Then about 50 yards out I see a hen and as soon as she walks in the woods
all is quite.I keep calling and no tom answers.I sit quitely for about 5 minutes and hit the box again.There is a smaller hen going in the woods same place the first one went in.I waited another half hour and calling about every  5 minutes with no anwers.so I head in the direction that he went and stopped and called every so often with nothing.
I had fun enjoyed every bit of my morning I will be there next Satuday very early

When they go away from you like that are ya raisin cain with him or just yelping?
Have hammer show ya some cutting and excited yelps to tell him HEY! get back here!
Your getting closer, I go tomorrow but I got to call for another fella first.

I tried getting on it, some soft like clucks and nothing.I think he was happy with what he already had around him

They like to sneak back to where they heard another hen  quietly too.  I'm wondering if he didn't came back an hour or so later. The other thing you could try next time is to go straight to his original strt zone & set up there & just call & wait. A lot of times they will slip back in there quietly for a look see.
