Getting ready for spring bear

Left this morning to set up my bear bait stand with my wife and my hunting partner.  Drove 90 miles north of Fairbanks and unloaded the ARGO.  Drove about nine miles in, took in a little water at a creek crossing other than that no problems.  Got to the site and set up a new stand.  Partner brought in 100 pounds of dog food, garbage can of popcorn, doughnuts, cheerios, 4 gallons of pancake syrup, doughnut jelly attractant, and to get that long range smell out there we cracked open a 5 gallon bucket of salmon scraps from last June, we all damn near threw up.  We will return next Friday night, will keep you informed.  Attached some pictures of this year and a couple of last years visitors.

That's pretty cool!  I've heard about ARGO's but never actually seen one. 

I killed a black bear back in '86 in Canada. Only bear hunt I've ever been on.  Saved up bacon grease for 6 months for that trip.  We used scrap fish and rotten meat for bait too.  Almost threw up fooling with that mess.  We piled a bunch of logs on top of the bait and the bears would rip it apart.

It's amazing how well that rotted fish works, the only problem can be if it gets all over the bear, skinning it becomes a test of ones ability to hold down your lunch.

Looks interesting, those argos are good to go pretty much anywhere especially around here. Hope you have a good bear season. How many are you allowed to harvest?
