They are supposed to lay flat during operation.  the holster is not for use while it is fired up.

They get pretty hot, but not overly dangerous.

FinsnFur

The holster is for when it's not in use?
I wonder how much or what kind of difference it makes though
Are they just saying that to avoid someone getting burned?

THO Game Calls

I've attached mine to a back pack and hiked through the woods with it hanging off the pack on my back with no problems, no spontanious combustion and no forest fires.

The HOT question can be answered just by looking at one closely.  It's made out of plastic.   How hot could it get?  I think I have had hand warmers that got hotter.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. All I could find on their website was; transporting in the on position while in a holster shortens the life of the unit.

I can't see where it would hurt anything other then you wouldn't be able to establish your supposedly 225 square ft protection area becasue you would be moving.

:confused:it says on the holster package that you can use it in the holster and hang it from something in your camp area like a tent pole. but then to use it it does say to lay it flat???

this is too complicated for me.

I use the holster, attached to my ankle area, so it is sometimes upright, sometimes sideways, sometimes flat.  It doesn't seem to mind and neither do I.  I am sure their lawyers would advise using it someway that would keep their liability lowest, but  I have not had problems and plan to keep using it this way until there is a problem.

I hope these things work like you guys say.  I've got a canoe/fishing trip to Canada coming up the first week of July. After reading some of the comments here, I bought one at the NRA convention a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to give it a try on the mosquitoes and black flies in Canada.

I've only used it once so far. Last weekend I wore it down fishing.
The outcome...well I didnt get bit by a single mosquito.

Now about three days before I actually went down to fish, I stopped in a couple of my favorite holes to check the water temps, clarity etc, and the gnats were so god dang bad I think I scratched my scalp bloody in the 15 minutes I was there. I was so irritated I had to take a crap five minutes after I got there :laf: I mean you could literally feel them crawling on you and in your hair. :mad3:

The Thermocell didn't 100% ward those off when I went back with, but it really did keep them to a minimum. made it so that I could at least shake my haed once in a while and keep fishing. :eyebrownod:

I think it's only fair to say there was a light breeze that day also, which I cannot help but to think would hinder the ability to actually maintain your so called 15x15 protective perimeter. But like I said...I never did get bit by a mosquito.

Sounds like it worked then.  :yoyo:

Pat-- I have no idea if it will work on those Canadian black flies or not. My experience with them buggers is body armor is prolly the way to go.  :eyebrownod:  Or wait til September to go up.  :laf: I'm interested in hearing how well it does on them tho. Please give us a report when you get back OK?

Will do. The Therocell guy said no problem with black flies, I hope he wasn't selling snake oil.
