Coyote or dog tracks??

Hey guys Al and I got out for an evening hunt last evening (9/4/08).  When we parked we found several sets of tracks . . .



We both thought they looked like coyotes, but we would appreciate some experts opinions just to be sure.

Here is the first set of tracks . . .



2nd set . . . .



3rd set . . . .



4th set . . . .



5th set . . . .



6th set . . . .



And the final 7th set . . . .



So what do you guys think??  Are they all coyote tracks or what???  This area is near a Rails to Trials hiking and bicycle trail so it would be easy for pet dogs to leave tracks here.  I think they all look like coyote tracks to me, but I am still learning!

I think they're all dog.

Can't remember for sure, but it doesn't seem like a coyote steps on his own track like that?

That and they're just not shaped right.

I agree with Brad H. Tracks are too round to be coyotes.  There was a good thread on FnF some time ago that showed the difference real clearly.  Maybe somebody will post a link to it. Might have been by CCP.

I'm no xpert but they look like Fido trax to me too.

Kudos to Chet. That is exactly the thread I was talking about. They clearly show how round the dog tracks are compared to the coyote tracks. The outside nails tend to be pointed in on the coyotes as opposed to the spayed out track of the dogs.

Round yes, clear no, usually around here most of the time the only claw marks are the center two toes....
So many different drawings and not enough clear photos
I will take some pics when I can......and we will check the differences

Could be domestic dog, or maybe red fox.

Sometimes soft sandy/clay soil and sloppy wet muddy ground can make it hard to tell the difference. I've got a 30 pound domestic dog that walks a little funny, some what bow legged, shuffles his feet. His trail and tracks often looks like the ones that I know were made by a coyote.

2/1/2 inches long by 1/1/2 wide , looks like a big dog to me!
