Our season here ended Jan1 but on the 3rd we have a youth day hunt where you can take a child hunting. I am taking my 5 year old nephew this afternoon. This will be his 2nd deer hunt. I am expexting to see some does this afternoon and i still have some tags. We will try to get one for him today. I will keed you posted and we'll take some pictures. We will be hunting from a portable blind. If you have never used one of these it is excellent for taking the young ones.
I will post back tonight hopefully with some pictures.

We had a great afternoon. When we first arrived we noticed a doe in the field and it was laying down. It would not move so I realized that there was something wrong with it. When it raised its head again I took a clean shot and put her down. After looking closer we realized this deer had been hit by a car and was severly injured but still alive. Its back legs were so mangled that its chance of survival was slim to none. Putting it down was the right thing to do.
However, we did not let this ruin our afternoon. We went ahead and put up the pop-up blind and waited. Right at dark this young 6 pointer came out in the field and we were able to make a clean shot for some meat in the freezer. Jamison was thrilled. Here he is sporting the FUR and Fins sign.

What a great couple of hours. He is hooked. Funny thing is, he kept asking when are we going to get out the coyote calls.
I tied up the ruined doe to a tree and mounted the ol' trail cam close by. Maybe we'll get some pictures of the elusive coyotes that I can never seem to get a shot at.
Here's a pic of the doe

Me too. I will be sure to let you guys know. I got to thinking on the way home. I hope my camera, since its infrared, isn't out there just taking picture after picture of a recently killed deer. I know its body heat is still warm.
