night hunting

I want to try some night hunting,but I am not sure what light to use. is it best to use a shot gun at night ,and if so what shot.any and all input would be welcome on this.

Hmmm.  I like to use a shotgun under most situations.  I like to use  a heavy load of either hevi-shot or federal high density shot in BB size.  Don't make the mistake of using too big of shot unless you can keep your shots to 30 yards or so.  BB will work better.

What light to use???  Depends upon how you are going to be hunting.  But, typically the agreed upon spotlight is the lightforce.  Rick at www.tufflights.com is a great guy to work with and I'd suggest ordering through him.  He won't steer you wrong. 

I know this is just a bit of a suggestion and there's lots more to discuss but I hope this helps just a bit.

Thanks for the input Guys and everything will be considered and I am willing to discuss hunting of any kind at anytime,and I sort through the info I gather and mix and blend what i am told and try to find what works best for me so I am open to any and all suggestions. what works for one person doesn't always work for the next, But i am always willing to try.I have only been trying to hunt these puppies for about 3 1/2 months and i am so yote hungry I can taste it LOL. As suggested, the video by the Randy's is an excellent source of infomation on night hunting preds, and quite entertaining to boot.   Randy Watson's truck mounted "chairs" have to be about the ulltimate in equipment for spot lighting (just don't fall out - its a long ways down).      

While night calling has its own quirks you have to be prepared for, darkness can sure cover up a lot of mistakes made by rookie hunters.   Great way to start somebody new to pred hunting and about the easiest way there is to score a lot of preds in a short time in a good area. 

Firearms are pretty much personal choice, and a lot will depend on whether you are doing it alone or with others backing you up.   There will certainly be situations where either/or will be the right tool at the moment.   Personally, I prefer specialty pistols for night calling since I hunt alone and most shots are fairly close.    Very fast to get on target with, even the close running shots.   Usually have two handy, one open or dot sighted, one scoped and both fitted with shooting lights.   I just grab the one that fits the situation.

Be sure to check your local laws before you do it though... not all states/locals are as open minded as mine is where spotlighting is legal almost everywhere and anytime.

I got a guy coming up on the 13th to do a night hunt at my location says he has been hunting coyotes for 15 years and has a few tricks up his sleeves . I now have about 600 acres to hunt right here close to home picked up another 100 acres yesterday. and three other small places to make stands within 5 miles of home I should be able to find a yote in that much space wouldn't ya think
