With my wife's shoulder being all busted up she can't drive so I have been playing chauffeur and with me feet being what they are I can barely walk  It's kinda like a old age home around here.  While she was getting ready for church yesterday morning I snuck my rifle and caller in the Blazer as I decided I could get in a set or two while she was praying for my poor soul.  When she was ready to leave I told her, "lets take the Blazer"  which immediately drew a reply of "Why, are you going calling?"  Figured it wouldn't pay to lie to her on a Sunday morning en-route to church so I just smiled and opened the door for her.  Dropped her off at church and headed out to the desert.  On my first stand I put my hand down to steady myself and felt a sharp pain in the heel of my hand, had rested it on a dead prickly pear pad.  Said a few words that I will not repeat.  After about 15 minutes of rabbit in distress I got up to leave and stumbled over a rock and rolled over move prickly pear pads.  Picked all the needles out and moved on to stand number two.  Set the Scorpion out and walked back to my stand all the while feeling sharp pains in my feet.  After about 3 minutes of Lucky Bird I saw a coyote coming in, she stopped at about 100 yards and just stared at the caller, turned around and started to walk away.  I switched to jack in distress, she stopped turned around and sat, then got up and started to walk away again!  I went to puppy in distress, she turned around and started to come in.  At about 75 yards she again stopped, stared at the caller for a bit turned and walked away.  My hand was hurting from the cactus, my feet were killing me and this coyote was smarter than I was.  In pure unadulterated anger I yelled as loud as I could "HEY YOU", she stopped, turned around facing me head on and then she died.

As a result of my stupidity I can barely walk this morning.  To compound matters I have a deer hunt starting 27 Nov which is now in jeopardy.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

I have hunted with some people in the past that I had wished had the same problem.

I say rest up for the next two weeks or so and get ready for that deer hunt.  Killing a coyote is kinda nice but you can eat that deer.   :eyebrownod:

And I hope your feet problems get behind you.  Have the docs' given you any encouraging news on when that might be?

Actually this has been on-going since a late evening stroll on a star lite night in 1969 in a jungle paradise.  They have been picking shrapnel and other fine piece of "stuff" out of my feet, legs and back ever since.  I also landed on a punji stick and you know what they cover them with.  We talked about amputation 39 years ago,  told them that I would think about it and get back to them - guess I'm still thinking about it.

Kept reading your post over and over John, but know matter what I did, I couldn't visualize you hunting on this trip. I kept seeing Don Knotts.  :roflmao: Except your gun is loaded and shoots strait.  Nice story and pic!

I know.  I was very lucky and never got a scratch while others were not so lucky.  The 'why' of it all bothered me for a long time.  Still does.

John, you need to do like Semp said, and rest up for your deer hunt.  As much as you like shooting the coyotes (and us seeing the pictures), you need to take it easy on your body for a spell.  The coyotes will be waiting when you return.  :laf:

GunDog

I do love to read your stories and see your pics here also Mr John ,but like the others have said, everything will wait on you to rest up. Good luck with your ailments, we'll pray with your misses and hope your doing better soon!
