What am I missing?

I'm reading on different threads about expo's, contests, hunts and other activities involving coyote hunters.  What am I missing here as I thought the idea of going to anything was the the meeting of people to Talk to.  I didn't realize in my little part of the world that money could make people so goofy.  I went to one fishing tournament with a few guys and they entered[I didn't], They fished hard for two days and bitched about other guys cheating, the rules, the prizes and basically seemed to have a piss poor time there.  I went fishing found an old abandoned mink farm that I found some home made nails, old knife and many other cool things, talked with and had a ball laughing at some older fella's that were just enjoying too.
What's this big name people thingy?  No one and I do mean No one is more important than anyone else in my eyes[maybe Jim cause he packs the big button] and at the LBL I want to meet people just to enjoy a laugh or learn a new trick .  You all know I won't spend money on new and improved so I guess I'm not a targeted customer for that shit[couldn't come up with a better way of puttting it].
I'd appreciate any feedback on this as I think once again I'm an idiot :doh2:

That's what makes the LBL so great Barry. No money involved. You can hunt with freinds you never get to see other times of the year. Or just sit around and talk. No pressure on you to do anything.
Once the money gets into things it brings out the worst in people.

I haven't been to any of those things either. The only reason I want to go to LBL is to meet some of the people from this board who have made me laugh, and learn. As far as the hunting, I can educate coyotes here, I don't need to ruin hunting for them. I already have more hunting gear than I can use so the expo is out, other than to go meet some of the others that aren't going to LBL.
sometimes I wonder....is that getting closer..... then it hits me

I had a personal conflict the other day, now I'm not speaking to myself.... I'm getting lonesome

I met the girl of my dreams, I was the man of her dreams too.....she used the term "nightmares" though.

Thanks Ed  :yoyo:. Makes me feel better knowing that somehow in all my bumbling that I appeared to get something right :whew:.  Only thing I like about big ego's is deflating them .

Yeah the Expo is an opportunity for venders, manufacturers, suppliers, etc to announce and or promote all under one roof. They pay dearly to get a booth for their company.
You as a visitor pay dearly to get in most of the time too, to be able to see the products and enjoy the amenities.

$o you can $ee right there the atmo$phere that create$.

To talk is why I would rather go to the LBL. As I said before expo type things just arnt for me. If I want to spend money on a product then I will, but I usually want to do a little research on it first and talk to people that have used them. That way I make an informed decession concerning my purchases. A salesman gives you a biased opinion. Someone that has used the item most likley will give you an informed opinion. I would rather have the informed opinion.

I ride and have a lot of friends that ride. Some of them go to the boat, sport and motorcycle expo here in Indianapolis. I could go but I choose not to. I hear a lot of stories when they get back. Some good some not so good. They usually show me some new gadget they picked up while they were there. Sometimes I am imppressed by them and sometimes not.

If the predator expo was closer I might actually entertain the thought of going just so I could meet some of the people and put a face with the name. Sense I am in between the two, the LBL gets my vote. One cheeper, two there would be more people there that I actually want to talk with.

I won't say I've never been to a "sportsman show" but I will say I've never come out of one feeling good about the world .  Sure seems to me that there are an awful lot of people that think I need to spend money to enjoy myself.  Truth is I take a mite of pride in going out with the least amount possible to enjoy myself.  Electronic gizmo's you folks all ready know what I think of.  Blinds I can make out of stuff on the farm[the boys enjoy it and I think it teaches them something] and if I ain't spending the money on toys I don't need then I'll have to earn less.  To me self sufficiency is more important than most anything on the planet as once you are happy with yourself then others can be happy with you.  Personally I couldn't imagine spending money I didn't have on an item for enjoyment cause how can you enjoy something you haven't paid for .  Just so you know I ain't aiming this at anyone on this board  :readthis: it's just that I spent two days in a [shuddder :puke:][I need to learn to do Rahms way of theatrics] place with over a million people and I didn't see one pay for anything with cash .

I only reasons I would go to an expo are to learn something or to talk to someone face to face.   I don't believe the expo in Columbus offers either of those reasons.  But I try to keep an open mind.   If facts change, I may yet go.

But have no doubt.  All of these expo's, hunts, contests, etc. are all about money and/or enhancing someone's stature so they can make money.  Nothing wrong with that I suppose but just don't fool yourself in to thinking its all about fun.

Ya know if this were any other site, We could be taking bets on who would be the next one to get band because of there opinion on the expo

I was going to attend the Expo and then I started seeing more and more the dirty politics side of it. Makes me dang glad I missed the Kansas one. Bunch of back patting and posturing for the BIG dog spots. GOOD LORD!!!  :doh2: :doh2:
If that's all this sport become, then I will take up something like competitive eating or something. Might as well do something I have a chance of being real good at.  :eyebrownod:

The LBL is low and slow baby. Just like I like it. Nobody trying to beat anybody out of anything. You can chat all day if you like. You can hunt all day if you like. You can set in your cabin all day eating crayons and rolling your turds into little balls if you like. It's up to you. It's your experience and you can make it any way you like.

I am so looking forward to seeing some of you guys again. I am also looking forward to meeting many more of you.

Here's the plain facts though. If someone is planning on showing up to the LBL to try and impress us or argue or basically be an arse. I'm going to give you some real good advice.
There's going to be a couple dozen men standing there that have been coming to this thing since the beginning. Some come on a regular basis and some are just good old boys looking for the LBL to be their relaxation every year.
These men will put an end to any trouble real quiet like and nobody will ever no the difference. We are there to have a good time. Not a bunch of crap.
Can't wait to go.  :eyebrownod:

This will be my first time at LBL so i'm not sure what to expect, but I do hope some of the call makers bring a few calls for me to drool over, and maybe,  :fingerx:  follow me home. I am hoping to meet a bunch of the guys and learn something.

I can understand this, everything around here was paid for in full before it followed me home. I tried the credit thing once and didn't like the end results.

I meant drool over, not on.
