I have a friend here in town that spent a grand total of 38 months in Iraq. He's only 28 years old, but he is a grizzled veteran, kinda grouchy, but I can't help but like him. He had two Humvees blown out from under him and is still here. That's the grace of God right there. He was also telling me that when they were in the devils circle or whatever they called it, that shooting in close quarters was almost on everyday affair and that anytime you acquired a target, you just thought of him as a paper silhouette.  :readthis:

Anyway he's been wanting to go shooting with me for awhile now, so we made a date for today. We had been one other time with our sidearms and he totally embarrassed me. He was drilling a post it note almost everytime at about 10 yards on rapid fire. Notice I said, "rapid fire", I know, I couldn't believe it myself.  :nono:
I thought I was pretty good with a pistol until I saw his shooting display. I think I hit the post it about twice out of fifteen shots. Still shot the silhouette and you could put a plate over my grouping, but it wasn't like he did.

This morning he wants to go shooting and he insisted we take my little boy with us. He is bringing almost exclusively guns that a little guy can shoot. I believe he wants to teach Jared how to shoot before his old man messes him up.  :laf:
He will also be bringing an AR, an AK, and an FAL. Sounds like fun to me. Nothing like shooting up someone else's brass.  :innocentwhistle:

All in all, it sounds like a fun morning is ahead of us. I will try to post some pics later.

What HaMer said!  :laf:  It's great that you are taking your son.  It's never too early to learn gun safety, and respect of firearms.  Along with how much fun they can be in the right context.  Atta boy Bop!

Dontcha just hate it when a simple thought ends up in print on these boards??  :nono: :nono:

Have a blast Bop. I am sure your boy will.

Learning gun safety and proper form is best done at an early age. Too late for you Bop but you best pay attention anyway. :innocentwhistle:
Don't bring shame to our sport.

He died for dipshits too.

:yoyo:  Very cool Bop! Sounds like you'll be in great company!

I'm sure Flat Jared's gonna be thrilled.
By the way, tell your buddy thank you for all he's done and been through serving our country.

It does sound like fun.  As for the Bite Me I think it is automatic whenever Glen posts in one of Bop's threads.      ;yes;

Boys we had a blast and thank you for the well wishes. Didn't get to take a single picture though. Dadgumit!! I took my wife's camera and somebody had forgetten to check the batteries.  :doh2:  Not even sure why I married her sometimes.  :nono:

Anyway, Jared got to shoot the "Han Solo" gun as he put it. Little .22 semi pistol with a silencer. It was a trip. Shot a juiced up 10/22 with bull barrel and bipods. Jared liked it too.
He ended up shooting close to 200 rounds in all.

I had fun with the AK, and the FAL. I even got a toy to come home with. He said he didn't use it much and made me a heck of a deal on it.

Look at this little Gem.

It shoots really nice, but does have a wallop to it. Got two 12 round magazines with it. The magazines interchange with his Glock 19. I couldn't believe it.  :doh2:
He worked with me a little to improve my form and low and behold I got a little better. I'm still not his caliber of shooter, but he had me shooting the post it note pretty consistently. Amazing what a couple minor changes can do for accuracy.  :sneer:

He taught defensive handgunning or something like that in the 101st Airborne. I was pretty impressed with his actual knowledge. I guess the first time we went out was just to evaluate my shooting. This time he actual showed Jared and I onehanded shooting, two handed, shooting with the weak hand, dropping to your back and firing, which I didn't do by the way. Didn't think it was a good idea to drop a fat man on a vertebrae that was missing part of itself.
Matt's speed at losing an empty magazine and reloading was incredible. Didn't hardly miss a beat in his shots.  :whew:

Jared enjoyed the teaching. He hung around Matt like he was a long lost uncle or something. It was neat watching this battle hardened soldier treating my child like his own.
He even pointed to Jared at one point and said, "That's why I fought, not because somebody said I had too".
I hate to get mushy, but it was a touching moment and then it was like he seemed awkward about saying something like that and went right back to being his charming self.  :eyebrownod:
