What a great morning.  We got set up in a a patch of woods with a long draw, brushy fields behind us, swamp out in front.  Just 2 weeks ago I had a coyote back door me here, come right into the caller the whole time I was looking down wind and never seen him.   Well this morning I figured we'd go back and kill him since his tracks said he wasnt spooked.   Got set up differ this time, placed my partner down wind 40yds and I sat crosswind watching the backdoor this time.  Started out with some lucky bird then switched up to cottontail, after about 30min of on off calling I switch over to pup distress, kinda our indicator the stands about to finish when I hear a commontion coming from my partner.....
I get up and walk on down and his eyes are as big as saucers !!! " I dont believe it..  I dont believe it..."    he kept saying.   We'll what the hell is going on ???   " I was looking tward the swamp and never heard him, I turned my head to look back and he was staring at me from 6ft away " !!!!

WHAT ??? U DIDNT SHOOT ????      "No it was a huge bobcat, musta went 35lbs"....

A big ole cat snuck right in scared the living shit out of my partner, he's only been out calling with me a few times now so he's not really sure what will happen and when this cat snuck in it scaret him pretty good.

We had to let him walk but IMO it was a great day for us.  Its only the second cat I've ever called in.

Made 3 more stands after that but no coyotes today, seemed the cats were hungry though

Vic I got's me a notion your partner will remember this day of calling far longer than if he had actually shot something .  That cat will be etched on his memory stick so deep it'll never be erased.  Great story and have fun.
I say what I think not think what I say.

Frogman

lol.. he didnt, when my partner got startled, the cat hit the gas and was gone by the time I got there.
Sorry if it sounded like that, this draw seems to be a natural funnel, I really like that spot.

Great story and I could imagine that happening to a lot of people.  I got so excited the first time I saw my first lion that I never even raised the rifle.  Do you guys have a season and limit on bobcats?
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Silencer

yea we do John, its based on a lottery type system and neither of us had a tag  :rolleye:  I havent sent in for years but you can bet I'm going to again.

KySongDog

KY has a season limit of 5 bobcats, only three of which can be taken with a gun.   The hunting season ends January 31. Trapping ends Feb. 28

We have no limit and our small game license is all we need.  However we do have a season, 1 Aug through 31 Mar.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs
