I found this on another site I frequent posted by another "Steve".

Quoteseems that photobuket users are experiencing issues with a nasty virus that attaches itself to your pictures when you "upload" to your account......if you never "download" your pictures from the PhotoBucket site then you are apparantely okay....if you do download either your computer, or the computer that you send a photo to that opens it will be infected with the virus called "Internet Security 2010" which attacks and shuts down any security/malware software that you have installed, (including at least the most recently updated McAffe), and corrupts your computer......at least one person that I read that had it stated that once he got the virus his computer was flooded with "porn popups", (no doubt Derek is presently downloading photos from photobucket as fast as his little maincured fingers can hit the command functions)....

I understand its a particularly nasty little bastard and hard to clean up......

I haven't had to do this but I'm told that "this" is the "fix".......

http://www.geekpolice.net/malware-re...ide-t16909.htm

I'm not vouching for the absolute correctness of the either the problem or the fix and am just passing the information along....

I did ask one source if it was "safe" to continue to upload to PhotoBucket and then only "link" pictures to there and was told ..... "as far as I know"......sooooo.....LINK don't DOWNLOAD back to your computer to store or to someone elses computer.......

Found a bunch of warnings and then found this.

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/photo-bucket-virus-warning.shtml

Then read some more and some question if the link in the original warning is the link.

I am still not real sure, but thought that I would give this till Jim answers.

I say bogus :nono:

Photobucket is so heavily prepared for this type of thing, that they would have shut down their servers until it was fixed, and gave a huge public statement on their site regarding it. Not to mention file lawsuits against the IP address that uploaded it.

Dont think for a minute that every action taken on the server by every person logging in isnt getting get recorded.

Plus...Internet Security 2010 is a virus that disguises itself as an antivirus program, alerting you of a virus on your computer, and tricking you into buying it to remove the virus. In actuality, your buying the virus and inviting it in.

Internet Security 2010 is for real, it is a real virus, and it's real dangerous. But it's not coming from nor is it contagious through downloaded photobucket pics. :nono:

I just had it and had to reload the works. They claimed it came through active x controls. Who knows? Jimmie

My wife has that on her laptop now, how do you get rid of it?

I won't even let you get into your control panel.

Avoiding it is more important then getting rid of it. And it can be avoided by running anti virus software on the computer and keeping the program up to date.

Running a computer with out up to date anti virus in this day and age is like marrying a life long prostitute. After a while even medicine is useless.

Try this for getting rid of it but it depends on how heavily the machine has been compromised.

I was just over in photobucket trying to download a picture to post here and my virus program (AVG) blocked it as a potential threat.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

cathryn

i dont like phptobucket because they deleted alot of my trapping photos from my account. theyre anti owned and operated, imo. they went so far as to delete an entire account i  had titled trappingpicsseason1.

ive been looking for a different image hosting site but cant seem to ever get any other one to work on my computer.

cathryn

evidentally theres a problem with AVG too. i just went and logged into my account and my viurs protection(AVG 9.0) didnt block the site and allowed me to access my album.
i wonder why the difference?

JohnP, what version of AVG is installed on your computer?

JohnP

Same as yours Cathryn, 9.0.  It will allow me to access it and view my pictures just not upload a picture to post on another board.  Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology upload/download all Greek to me.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

FinsnFur

It could just be the way each of you have AVG set up.
John whats the link to the image I'll check it out and see if it's infected. But I'm doubting it will be.

Here is an interesting piece of information. Looks to me as though the virus is coming from MySpace, not photobucket.

Subject: Photobucket Virus

PHOTOBUCKET WARNING
THERE IS A VIRUS ON THE INTERNET THAT IS NOW AFFECTING YOUR PHOTOBUCKET ACCOUNT. IT STARTS OFF AS A MYSPACE COMMENT ON YOUR PAGE. THE COMMENT SAYS EXACTLY THIS :

lol have you seen these pics yet? im suprised her myspace didnt get deleted yet for posting pictures like that.

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK THAT FOLLOWS. WHAT HAPPENS IS ONCE YOU CLICK THE LINK IT CAPTURES YOUR COOKIES ON YOUR MACHINE. ONCE IT DOES THAT THE VIRUS WAITS FOR YOU TO LOG INTO YOUR PHOTOBUCKET ACCOUNT AND WILL DELETE ALL OF YOUR IMAGES AND VIDEOS IN YOUR ACCOUNT OR IT WILL POST NUDE PHOTOS ON YOUR ENTIRE FRIENDS LIST.

IF YOU SEE THIS, DO NOT OPEN THE LINK, SIMPLY DELETE THE COMMENT AND TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT THEIR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN PHISHED. LET ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS KNOW. A FEW OF MY FRIENDS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ALREADY. REPOST AS: PHOTOBUCKET WARNING

I dont know anything about the validity of that. But I do know that MySpace is getting quite a rap as a place to pick up things like that.
I've read where they were having a lot of issues with code embedded comments spreading malicious scripts.
The problem is, if it's true....once word gets out amongst these freeks, they all start honing in on the exploit and it gets worse and worse.

The best way to get rid of that virus is Malwarebytes Anti Malware.  I have dealt with that virus and Malwarebytes will destroy it.

BUT you must have Malwarebytes Anti Malware on your computer (it is a free program)  BEFORE you get infected and keep it up todate.   The virus will block you from loading Malwarebytes if the virus is activated first.

This is just my experience and I am no expert.  Your mileage may vary.
