Fantastic old photos from the tail end of the depression to the early years of WWII.

Well before my time. Looks like a lot of folks were still struggling 10+ years after the start of the depression.

While looking through these old photo's, one can't help but be struck with the notion that this was a more "simple time" when folks worked hard just to get by. Most never asked for nor expected much more. Today's youngsters should be charged with reviewing and extensively researching a few of those images. They might indeed come away with a new sense of appreciation and an adjusted attitude.

Fos,

I agree that it would help many kids, but there are also many parents that could benefit by doing the same thing.

Jerry

P.S.  The quality of slides must have been pretty good or someone spent a very long time in photoshop.

Hard to believe that I was alive when some of them pictures were taken!

Very interesting photos.   Definitely from a time gone by.

Lots of children with out shoes and I didn't see any FAT people.   Times were hard back then.

2-4-19-35-39 all bring back childhood memories for me. I also remember the enormous coal stock piles from pic 67. Thanks for posting that up Fos. I did enjoy it.

THANKS for posting have went through these pic's 10 times at least so far and see something different every time.  :yoyo:

I like photo 26, who says the boys back in the day didn't have fun....

We got 2 beer joints 40 yards apart with a cafe' and a drug store sandwiched between them. Then a barber shop on the end. Everything a man needs all in walking distance of one another. :doh2:

I can picture a guy going to the beer joint on the right then to the cafe'. Gets sleepy and goes by the drugstore for something to pep him up them to the next juke then possibly a hair cut before going home to the misses.  :alscalls: of course maybe that was just my plan when I seen that pic....
