Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

You say the chicken knocked on your door?  :laf:  That's funny right thar Mr. Bill.  :yoyo: :eyebrownod:

I use to raise fighting roosters, but lost a whole lot more fights than we won. Then it became a felony, so I quit.  Also, when I was a kid, my parents would keep about 30 laying hens and then twice/year they would grow out around 100 fryers. Use to love that part. My grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins would all get together on a weekend and kill and dress all the fryers. Grandpa killed them, the kids chased around the flopping bodies and the women would do the dirty business in the scalding vats. I miss those days.

I thought I knew a thing or two about fowl, but I now know just how truly ignorant I am of their capabilities. I reckon I'm gonna have to get me some more Hatch, Kelsos and Whitehackles again and see if I can't see some of this stuff for myself.  Might even throw in a Butcher or two. They have a tendency to be manfighters, but if you stick another rooster in front of them, that changes their mind in a hurry. Only think I don't like is they have went away from the Long Gaff (2 3/4") and went more to the 3" knives. Makes for faster fights, but I don't think it tests the gameness like the Long or Short Gaff did. Oh well, I guess eveything changes.

Hey, Skid Mark... :laf: it sure sounds like you have some pretty smart chickens there.  :congrats:

You might really want to consider keeping such highly prized poultry like those safely out of the reach of roaming foxes and coyotes.

For instance....  locked up in a certain mother-in-law's house.

Just kidding, Bill's MIL

Please visit our ol' buddies over at: http://www.easterncoyotes.com

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

Bill,

I don't know why we didn't think of this sooner, but you could make a funnel with the "specially named wire" that led to the MIL trailer.  That way the thief in the dark could get a meal that is bigger than a chicken, doesn't have feathers, and your life will be happier.

Chicken wire stuff.   That stuff is special made to put between chickens and thieves in the dark.
