Just wondering if anyone Else's computer has been acting crazy, has Wilkileaks been hacking the site, my computer has been locking down, the cursor won't work, takes it a long time to start up, just doing all kinds of crazy things?     cc

Try running Malwarebytes free program and see if you picked up a bug somewhere.

In had to dump Firefox on 12/5 & go back to Windows whatever. 8 I think.    I kept getting a message saying FF was already open & running a program but I couldn't find it anywhere. I even tried a re-start,, not sure why I thought that would help,, & it didn't work. I reloaded FF on 12-7 & so far with the limited use of it,, til I see it aint gonna mess with me again,, it has been flawless. But now Windows is getting slower. I have all the updates ran for everything & the disc defrag has been run plus I cleared the cookies. Fortunately that is all that has happened here.  :whew:

Sounds like maybe something got added to your auto start routine and is hogging resources.

HaMeR

That could be Johnny. Then when I deleted FF I got rid of it.

Thanks Semp, Ran the program and so far it seems to have solved the problem, it said close to 300 programs affected, don't know what Malware is but apparently its affects performance of computer. Thanks again  :bowingsmilie: cc

Glen:
Firefox has added a helper program you can see in task manager that is called  plugin-container.exe that really eats up memory. I'm thinking of deleting FF and downloading an older version.

That could have been my problem John. I really don't know.   Windows is working better now. It's a little slow at times but it's better than FF was doing. I liked FF too. Maybe I'll give it some time & go back & try later.

That has happened to me a time or two.  Here is what I do (Windows XP).   CTRL+ALT+DEL will bring up Windows Task Manager.  Under the Processes tab, find each instance of firefox.exe, highlight it and hit the "End Process" button.  Then exit the Task Manager program,  and restart Firefox.    Works for me and I hope this helps you.

Wow! 300 is a lot.  That program is a good one to keep handy and every once in a while scan your hard drive with it.  Glad it worked for you.

Semp I did the same thing but most of the the time it doesn't show a Firefox.exe which pisses me off. I use the Chrome mostly now but there are a few things I dont like in Chrome. The #1 thing I dont like is the review post. it comes up in a tinny weenie window with only one line at a time. other than that I really like the way it is laid out and the browser opens instantly when I hit the icon.

My computer was doing the same as HaMer and CCP plus a lot of other things, The Malware scan seems to have clean up the computer for now seems anymore that everyday something new comes up to screw things up, getting to be a full time job just keeping this thing working. cc

plugin-container.exe isn't really new to firefox. It came out this summer in Firefox, and is designed to contain the many problems various users have with flash applications.

What is flash applications?
High tech, fancy graphics, usually animated.

When your browser freezes up do to either a poorly written flash application, or simply too many flash applications running at once, your browser goes down with it.
plugin-container.exe is designed to contain those problems, hence the name plugin-container. It will contain the problem and prevent your whole browser from crashing.

I know the plugin was added last summer but it has been a giant pain in my ram.  :alscalls:
I used this link  http://www.ampercent.com/disable-firefox-plugin-container-process/6383/   and shut it off and my ram is no longer being eaten by it and running smooth. I check task manager all the time and it's no longer running. so far you tube and the movie sites I frequent have no problem playing flv files or any other type files. I really like downloading the old B&W public domain movies and FF was just eating way more ram since they added the plugin container. Nolw it's running smooth as silk. Might not work for others but it gave me back my ram. When that container would run my useage would jump to 99% cpu usage. I just checked and it's running at 9% and I have a flv movie running in the background.   Just a thought.

My laptop was running fine, then the battery went dead while I was doing something else. When I plugged it back in and turned it on, it had the BLUE screen of death. Wonder what happened there?

I'll give that a try and see if things run any faster.  Thanks for the link.

Make the adjustments in a seperate tab so you can go back and check t he directions as you go. All I can say is it worked for me. I have a movie playing while I'm on here and also on my forum and 2 others as well as downloading a movie. My computer is not that biog. It's 3.2 gig 2 gig ram 250 HD. It sure helped mine speed up.

I think I know what you were getting at John, and yeah FireFox was having problems with a couple different plugins in it's last version.
One of them solely revolved around flash.

I had problems with FireFox acting like it wasnt connected to the internet, bogging, real slow and sluggish at certain times. It was actually from the flash aps not unloading.

I upgraded to the new version 3.6.13........and WaLA...just like brand new.

I was trying to think of a site with lots of flash on it to test after that. ....gofoxpro.com :laf:
Their intro is flash and there's two flash movies on the front page. I loaded er up, switched on both movies, opened up photoshop, FnF forums, and then Outlook Express..........she never missed a beat.
