3 slate over glass pot calls I assembled the other day with some strikers I made for them. . Maple, Walnut & Sassafrass pot calls.

I DID NOT make the top striker of those bottom 2.  :nono:

Strikers I did make excluding the one I did not make.  :readthis:

Looks like someone is getting ready for TURKEY season!  Nice looking calls.  What is the multicolored shaft on the striker with the cherry head?

Glen,
I've never used a pot call, so please help to enlighten me here. Does the different types of wood used (striker and/or call body) make a big difference in tone or pitch, from one call to another?   I've found it does in some of the box calls I've used.

Also it would be interesting if someone would do a short demo showing the different turkey calls... and how to work them.  :innocentwhistle:

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

Glen,
I have made the $100 PayPal transfer for the trade secret and can only say that it is probably the best spent $100 that I have made in a long time.

Since I electronically signed a memo or confidentially, I will not be able to share this with others.  For those who have inquiring minds and an extra $100, just send a PM to Glen.

Chet-- Yes it does make a difference. So does the distance between the slate & the glass as well as the wall thickness. You can actually change the sound by increasing grip pressure while you play it. That is why it's so hard to tune a friction call to everybodies liking. We grip them different.

Thanks everybody. Especially Jerry for the  :hahaha: HEY SCOTT!! paid in full trade secret payment.  :laf: :laf:  I'm not a call maker tho. At least not yet. I'm dabbling with some things around here tho & if I do make calls I doubt I make too many predator calls. There just seems to be way too many makers out there.

Jim-- I make lots of things from wood.   I have 10 small bowls started right now that will set on tables at my Daughter's wedding reception & be given away at the end. If I can swing it & get the right tools I'll make there wine glasses for their toast.

Doug-- These 3 are spoken for. If you don't mind waiting a while I cam get you one. Not sure it will be in time for Turkey season tho. Supposed to go to work next week now. I hope I do anyhow.

Brad-- Be prepared to shoot thru the side of the pop-up blind!!  :yoyo: :yoyo:

vvarmitr

So what do you do? Stick the striker in one of those holes & wiggle it around or do you just whack it w/ the striker?   :wo:
Why else would you call* it a striker?
Ya know, I think I'm getting on to this turkey hunting thing.

* no pun intended

HaMeR

:laf: :laf:  I guess when you're used to wiggling a little thing like that in a hole you automatically think that's how this works.  :laf: :laf:

The other side is the playing surface. Not much to see there so I just showed the wood on them.  :laf:

Just a curiosity here JaMer....  does all the sound come from the slate?.... I mean looking at the thing reminds me of an old time phonograph.... seems like a fella could hollow out the "striker" and get some sound from it too?... or am I thinking wrong?....  how much affect does the material for the striker have on the tone of the call?.... are harder woods like ebony a good choice?    If I knew how to call the suckers I think it'd be fun to make some calls like that.
