Last Saturday I had a great day. Got a lot done on the truck got some of the yard mowed and other miscellaneous stuff done around the house and property. When I finally was done and set down to relax for the night I got what I call the "stretchers". Now the stretchers feel good, kind of a oh man I just put in a good day and a stretch and relax session is what I need. One problem with the stretchers. They have a specific feel to them and ya just cant get the relief from a stretcher like you can from a regular stretch your back out  kind of stretch.

I new that a case of the stretcher's was a sign of a headache. Not a normal headache but a  "Excedrin got nothing on this, HEADACHE!! So I prepaired for the oncoming onslaught of pain and me generally not feeling well and a cold wash rag on my head.

I am awoken after a fitfull nights sleep by my best friends x wife. She hasn't heard from Kevin sense Thursday night and it is now Sunday morning 7:30AM. I tell her I will head over and check on him. So an a cross county ride with a migraine that is barley under control I find myself at Kevins house. Kevin is one of my best friends and suffers from Some debilitating disorders that have left him in a powered wheel chair. I look in the front window and don't see anything and don't hear the dog a barking so I find the door unlocked and him in a bad position on his bed legs hanging down and not in a good color. An ambulance is called and Kevin is rushed to The hospital and is in bad shape. He is awake but not coherent. They cant get a BP and he is badly dehydrated. I talk with the First responder that was first on the scene and in the ensuing conversation it is found that he and my father know each other through the FVD that my father is chief of. I head off to go back home and meet Up with my cousin Baloo. Adrenalin is wearing off and my headache is letting me know its still there. Lunch with my cousin and a visit at the house and its off to bed. not feeling well and just hoping this headache will let up. Take some more OTC pain meds and get some water in me and its off to bed

About 3 in the morning my headache woke me up from a sleep. I thought ok Lets take the next re comended dose of my OTC pain meds. Get some water in me and back to bed. by 10AM I called a friend and asked her to take me to the ER. I could no longer take the pain. It was making me nauseous and just starting to dryheav from it. A dryheave and this headache do not go good together. so a ride into town finds me at the Local band-aid dispensary. Insurance info and personal information exchanged and we find myself in a room on a gurney not feeling well a very nice nurse taking vitals. Everything good but my bottom number is up on my BP. I tell them I have a migraine and all the past histroy I can think of as per-tinant. Some deliberation and it is decided a shot pain and a shot for the nausea and I am sent home. The last thing I remember before leaving was talking to a lady doctor who agreed with me that a previous infection may be getting ready to act up.

I find myself at home and a quick good bye is said to my friend Melora and I lay down on the couch and grab my phone to call work and let them know I will not be in. The phone rang in my hand and woke me up. It was my boss Asking why I wasn't at work. It was a little before 4. apparently I had fall asleep. I tell him I am sorry I didn't call in, informed him of my migraine and the ER trip. I Will not be in and I would be in tomorrow and We hung up. At 6 the headache was back. It brought its friend, Fever.

Fever came in at 104*. I grab the paper from the ER for a direct number and am informed that yes I should come in and they would be ready for me. Call friend for a ride and I am again in a room on a gurney, in pain, not feeling well and a very nice nurse taking vitals.

OK blood is taken as well as a chest x-ray and the good old standby of peeing in a cup. Results come back and I have high D_Something. This is an indication of a blood clot. Quick trip to radiology and a ultrasound is preformed on my leg. No blood clot but the headache is gettin worse and I have lymph nodes swelling in my groin.

Back into the little room and the doc walks in and starts his questions. I mention a previous cellulitous infection. He notices a red blotch on my leg. nothing major lust a reddish discolored area. He asks if this is new I say dint know cant see it. he lifts my leg I say yep that's new.

Very next thing I know I have a very nice nurse asking me to please let her have my arm.  Blood is drawn and off to the lab with it. Another nice nurse then comes in with a Large needle and a bag with a hose on it and says it looks like I am being admitted. she installs the IV with no problems and I thank her for her kind touch. As soon as the IV is up and a drippin I am introduced to my old friend Morphine. The headache has no chance against the amazing powers of morphine and is driven to bay. Not gone but reduced to a level to help keep the rising nausea from getting bad. Fever 103.4*

The Nurse comes in with a new bag and I ask whats that she says antibiotic. Lab results are back. I have Bacteria in my blood. This I know is not good. She informs me I will be heading up to a room momentarily.

Upon reaching my room I am weighed and placed in bed. Head nurse come in and makes a marks around what is now no longer just a little reddish patch but an angry, hot to the touch, band around my left calf. Info is exchanged and I am left to sleep.. IV buzzer starts going off and I let it go because I feel like not moving. Nurse come in and hangs another bag I ask whats that and she jumps thought I was asleep and she says Antibiotic, I will be receiving continuous antibiotic for the next several hours. She then starts hooking up a syringe to the IV I ask whats that she says good night. She was right.

All this happened Last weekend from Saturday to Monday night. I just got out of the hopsital yesterday at noon and I will be looking at at least 10 more days of not able to do much with out becoming so tired I just want to lay down where I am at.

I am going to go sit on a bank and cast a bobber for a few days.

Dayum, Bear.   Sounds like you've been put through the ringer.   Have they figured out the root cause of the problem yet?

Hang in there.  I hope the worst of it is over for you.

slagmaker

Root cause was a cellulitus infection in my leg. Not sure how I got that but I had the same thinig several years ago and it almost got me then. As did this one. My daughter came in the room on Tuesday and was very worried about me "at that time I was worried about me". She said the nurses told her I was touch and go for a bit but had stabelized when she got there.  I will be on antibiotics for at least 15 more days and if today was any indication I will be tired for at least another 10

Wow Slag, that sounds like a real rough stretch you're going through.  You had me thinking Lyme disease, but this sounds worse.  I wish you a full and quick recovery.  At least the nurses are nice.  Keep us posted.

Here's another thought.  If they haven't done so already, make sure the Doc's check for a possible MRSA infection.    I know a couple of guys who got that bug and it is some nasty stuff.

That part cracked me up.
I'm glad your home, and the fact that you sat and beat the keys that long to fill us in is a good sign  That sounded pretty wicked, I hope things get better for you.

I just slept for 14 hours and I am still tired. Not sleepy mind you but tired. Sitting is all I feel like doing right now so typing on the computer is not a bad thing..

I know they grew a culture from my blood and I am going to ask the doc when I see him on thursday what the results of that were. I know they were afraid of a MRSA infection at first but that was an easy test and it was negative. The second time I hit the ER. I was thinking possible lyme disease but knew the swollen lymph nodes in my groin were telling me where the infection was and by golly they were right. Same place as the first time, on my shin just above my ankel.

If you ever see a patch of red just spring up on your limbs and have any fever at all. Go directly to your closest ER. A cellulitus infection is no laughing matter. I knew some other people that have had them. Including my father and they all agree with me on the fact that they are NO FUN. No sir not one bit!!

First one I had I ran a fever of 106.7* and was thankfully spared any permanent brain damage. You want rapt attention in an ER go in with a fever that high. You will get attention from dang near every department in the hospital and have someone getting you any thing you ask for. You will have a real live person standing the the room with you the whole time your there. Had a couple cat scans with that fever as well as this one..

The going septic was new tho and I can tell you this. It will make you tired in ways that I didnt knew you could be tired. Ever get tired taking a leak? I have.

:puke: Dang Slag! A fever of 106.7 is enough to get attention from the guy in the BASEMENT at the hospital! Hope you feel better soon!

I had to google it. I've never even heard of it before. Looks like bad stuff, glad you're doing better.

For general information a cellulitus infection is an infection of the dermal layers of the skin. It is a bacterial infection and can come from the smallest of scratches. The bacteria can easly go into the blood stream and whalla you are septic and on your way to see your for yourself about Jesus.

Went to town today with my daughter Ember driving. I guess we walked maybe 400 yards today. My leg is so sore that I think I am just gona let it lay for a few. Had a shooting pain comming comming otu of the calf. Felt like the skin was shrinking. not a good feeling. Getting stronger everyday. But still wore out.

Sounds like you were in pretty rough shape.  Glad to read that they found the problem and that it was one that they could treat.

He comes back and she says it still hurts . Doc waits another 10 min she say still hurts . nother 75 finnergan and dimmerol, doc ask can u carry her in the house and I say yeah but I wont need to. He says yes you we we tranqued like a horse . Have you know that girl walked into the house and got no relief and waited for the migrain e to subside. Now i know she partied in highschool but tolerance man she had some

slagmaker

150 on the finnergan(sp) and the doladid(sp) was up there but I dont remember the exeact dose. That was the first ER visit. Second ER visit I never received finnergan(sp) it was straight Morphine they gave me in the ER, you can tell by the taste it puts in your mouth. Once I was in a room they changed it back to doladid(sp) and nausia was controled through pain control. I know that with the doladid(sp) i am starting to build a tolerance to. It dont last near as long or take the pain away near as well,, it will take the edge off of it and enable me to get my mind off the pain. But erase it... nope aint found nothing that can erase a headache. WHen your in that much of that type of pain I have found few pain med's that will put you out. Make you sleepy but thats it.

How's it going now, Slag?  It's been about 4 day days and your posts seem to be getting a little more positive.  Hoping you're feeling better and on to a full recovery.
