One of the guys that I work with, called last night and told me his relatives are having trouble with coyotes killing their sheep. He asked if I would come out on Sunday and try to call some coyotes, said if could thin them out a little he would be greatful. I asked how big is the ranch and he replied 9 sections. Will need good walking shoes for this hunt, if the weather holds out.

Well I moved my 5th wheel up to west yellowstone on Saturday, the snow has finally melted enough to park it here. 5 shots was passing through and stopped we chatted until about midnight. Got up early on Sunday morning and headed out to try to call some coyotes, its about a 4 hour drive to the ranch where I was headed. Picked up my coworker Gus and headed out. We arrived about noon it was raining and snowing off and on, but the snow was not sticking. On our first set up started off with distressed jack rabbit for about 5the mins, took a break then continued to about the 20 minute mark. I then took out my howler and gave a long drawn out lonesome howl, and the hillsides came alive with coyotes. Gus has only hunted coyotes twice, and not been able to connect. We waited about 40 seconds after they stopped howling, and i did a couple of barks and a short howl, then put my calls away. The first two coyotes showed up about a min later, Gus started shooting like a man possessed, I could not see the coyotes from where I was sitting. He shot 11 times. I waited for awhile then walked over to his side and asked if he connected, he looked like he was going to cry, he told me they were about 20 yards when he saw them and started shootin, but he never connected. More to follow later.

Hey Jim, 5shots and I have been talking back and forth on the phone, and that ,was the first time we met face to face. But anyway I forgot my camera on every set up, so there are no pics. Sorry guys will try not to let it happen again. Called in 7 total, only one showed up on my side, Gus ended up with two coyotes, I ended up with one, the only coyote that came in down wind. We only hunted about 1000 acres theres still 9000 to go. Found out the neighbor wants us to take a look at his property also, that is another 10 sections of land.
