Yes Dave. I was a hound hunter many yrs ago. It would be somewhat different if it wasn't my dog. But not by much. Point being, I haven't used dogs since the early 70's. The older I became. The more I prefered doing everything myself. Rather than hunt in a group or use hounds. I prefer a 1 on 1 hunt. Me against the predator. As for me getting a puma. I want & expect to put in my time. So when everything pans out. I will have accomplished what I intended to do in all aspects.

The old farmer coon hunter is 79. Not ideal for humping through the foothills & timber chasing his hound.

I had a flicker of a chance last yr for one. But focused to much of my time in a focal area. This yr its up to 2 flickers with another area to hunt. I'm thinking now days. There are more pumas in Iowa. Than most consider.

Yesterday in the am, I searched another county for puma sign. Along the feeder creek & river bridge under passes. Found 1-lone puma track on a sandbar. Yesterday in the pm, I met the two acrege owners who had the puma on their land awhile back. After a look at the hay field. We all went inside so she could show me her pics from the last 2 Winters. She had pics of single lion tracks & of a pr of lions. She went on to tell me she has had 2 puma sightings since last Fall. Also gained more permission on some land.

Found this lion print along the river in the last wk. Got a call a few nights ago. Puma came up out of a ditch & was going to cross the highway. But quickly turned & went back down in the grassy ditch. It appears there are a few to be had. I just want one is all  :laf:

I was just told a bit ago. A lady I know who lives West SouWest of me around 30 miles. Had one on her farm. She was recently missing some cats. I reckon the big cat eat the little cats. Isn't life ironic?  :laf: Anyway the wait for snow cover is killing me.

Some know it alls(self anointed predator hunters) & what not. Don't believe pumas have established themselves here in Iowa. Really?  :doh2:
