Due to recent events, conversations with others, and a dash of speculation...I get the hunch that a few current members, and possibly some of those considering joining, are refraining from posting certian things, or even at all for fear of being labeled or looked down upon over at ..... :innocentwhistle:

The mere consequences alone would dictate MY new home, but it's not about me, sooooo
I'm asking you guys if you'd like viewing permissions removed from guests.

Right now anyone can come in and read, but only members can post. Turning that off is a two second operation.

We can take a vote through the poll above, you don't have to reply if you don't want, but I'd appreciate a vote. If you vote without posting, your identity will remain private to all

3rd Alarm

It really doesn't matter to me, I do and will continue to visit both boards regularly, I have friends in both places.  My only question, and F&F you would probably be the best to answer this, if you lock visitors from previewing would the detour them from actually signing up, Hence causing F&F to have a low membership?

Just a thought, might be a dumb one, but just a thought.

THO Game Calls

I'm one of the ones that voiced my concerns about posting here and there.  It's a very sad situation to have to feel that way, but after the personal E mails and Private Messages I have recieved from Administrators and Moderators there, I have good reason to be concerned.  Espeicially since I am a paying HOB advertiser there.  I kind of feel like a coyote at 500 yards, just knowng that one step closer will spell certain disaster.

But the bottom line is that now that AOL is free, anyone with two computers can just delete all their cookies and sign up for a free AOL account and log on here with an assumed name.

There is no way to stop anyone who feels the need to lurk and gather dirt on people who frequent this or any other board.  All blocking them will do is make it a tiny bit harder to accomplish what ever it is they feel the need to acomplish.

I vote NO

Time will tell.  Some folks who are pretty acomplished in the Predator Hunting Community have left there.  I think they are walking a fine line now, knowing that they have to temper their actions with the reactions it will certainly cause should things go south again or they push an agenda of revenge against people who post over here.

There are still a number of really good folks who are Moderators there, as well as members.  I would hate to see what we all have ruined by the actions of a few people with personal agendas.  I fear that is already happening, but again, time will tell.

I'll post on both boards as long as I am able.  It's time we all got back to being men again, and realized that killing predators is not a matter of life or death for us.  No matter where we think this sport is heading.  It's time again for mutual respect, and to stop using our positions to threaten, weather overtly or covertly, each other.

I agree allot with what Al says, but would like to mention one thing.

If your worried about being labeled or looked down upon for posting something, then your not being true to yourself, and if you conduct yourself respectfully, then who cares what anyone else thinks? Just because someone doesn't like your idea, or methods doesn't mean the rest of us think any less of ya. Matter fact you'll command more respect being yourself then if your portraying images of someone your not.

So pull up a stool and we'll buy ya a beer on Jim's tab.

studabaka

I agree with Todd, but feel Al's pain. It truly is sad. Nobody cares about me, so I can use both boards with no impact. At the end of the day you only need to be true to yourself and behave so your mama would be proud.

Those that have issues with anyone doing the above and utilizing two, three, four, .... boards, need to get a life and stick to their own knitting. If I was somebody and some yahoo did that to me, I know exactly how I would respond.

Scott makes a good point, but I had thought long and hard about it already, much before I put up the poll.

There's a flip side to every coin. "Guests off" will hinder some registrants, and definetly kill the search engine stats for you guys with products.

Todd, I better put some money in the jar if it's going on my tab

Fill that jar up buddy! I'm thirsty

I know where your comin from Jim. I wouldn't want anyone spyin on me, it'd tend to piss me off.

But, like Al said, they could work around it though  :madd:. It just goes to show who's mature and who wants to act like teenagers  :rolleye:. I say .... em! It could go both ways lock em out and put up with it or let em be guests, either way
maturity will reign!

It's your show bud, whatever you decide, you got my support.

I still visit PM, so far I haven't seen any conflicts. But that's the open forum and i don't know what is happening behind the scenes like you may.

I may be off a little bit after re-reading your post, but still will keep what i said above, there.

To the guy's that won't sign in fearing they may get caught in the middle, grow some nuggets. As long as your not a pot stirrer
what have ya got to fear? Were for the most part all men, if i have a friend that visits 1 such site i don't like, i wouldn't be much of a friend if i gave him flack over it.

I say no. Without that abilty folk can't get any info they are looking for. How many times have you heard the line I have been a lurker for a while. I say we give them time to get comfortable. We already know there are a pot load of those lurking out there.

C'mon fellas, I got the night crawlers and know where there are a mess of bluegill the size of dinner plates :eyebrownod:  At least I think I have the night crawlers, caught my pig rooting in there the other day eating them   :innocentwhistle: We'll be having fresh bacon in about six months  Jimmie

Does PM have an exclusivity clause in its advertizing program?

If not, tell whoever to stick it at the entry point of a Texas heart shot or prepare for a sopena if there harrassement is a representative of the PM legal entity.

The notion that Al [and others], who have been a tremedous encouragement to us lay hunters, has not only advertized but shared his knowledge gratis [ I have an Al instructed lanyard I made without a nickel changing hands] , is taking a ration of xxxx because he/they share numerous places.....well it pisses me off.

I would love to know who these morons are. I might get booted, but I think the broader community needs to understand what they are doing and have the opportunity to decide for themselves who should be managing where they spend their time.

I don't know what may or may not be going on behind the scenes, but I was wondering if this would come up.

I don't think anyone should worry about what someone else thinks of them by posting on another board. I understand it, I just don't think it's necessary.

I still have friends, quite a few in fact, over there. I've always liked all the mods and admin there. I still go there and if I feel moved to post, I will. If someone has a question that I can help with, I will. I just perfer the atmosphere of these smaller boards.

If they want to hang out and read what goes on, let'um. If you feel the need to shut out guests, I'm fine with that too. As a callmaker, I can only speak for myself, but it really won't hurt me. I'm not a mass sales kind of guy. A few orders keeps me busy for a long time.

Stu,
If we paid our ad fee, we're free to advertise there. We can post where ever we want and they've always been cool with that as far as I know.

Brad

studabaka

I'm sure they were cool with that when Jim was driving the bus. Who is driving the bus now and who is screwing with Al and other great guys?

I'm pretty selfish. I don't care where Al and others call home. I just don't want them so screwed over that they don't want or don't feel they can share. Me [and a lot of people that probably don't realize it] will be the losers.

I'd rather we just feed the couple of morons, that are screwing things up, to the yotes and get back to focusing on what we all enjoy.

the way I see it is that these forums are meant for learnin about the great outdoors while we cannot get out there and enjoy them.  I think you ought to make it so you have to register.  the people that want to know about hunting or predator hunting will register anyhow.  point is it is your board and you are admin I believe you know what is best.  I just hope there is someplace with out the arguments of east vs south puppy wars and the whole nine yds that seem to happen.

Jim, am I to understand that PM staff are threatening members that have signed onto your board?
Al, were the communques you spoke of actual threats? I don't understand what action they could take against anyone for engaging in any activities off their board.
Reading the responses from  all these guys impressed me with the quality of members that you have attracted here, Jim. It speaks well of you. Better keep an eye on Todd and Studabaker though.

I haft to agree with most here. I just cant see someone letting a e-net board have anything to do with how they conduct there life???? Who gives a rats a$$ what someone thinks about were you post? If they think less of you for posting on one board or the other then you don't need them anyway!

Look at it this way....Its the value of info you can get or receive from a e-net board that matters the most! Help others or get help? Either way its you own business!

Its the friendships, fellowship, and well.......The love of the sport that keeps me posting and hunting!

Brent

FinsnFur

I wouldn't say threatening Rich. It just seems some of the recent changes in proudly established past policy over there is dramatically targeting certain members here. Maybe be purely coincidental, may be agenda driven, may be neither

It's sad yes, but only reinforces what I have been saying for two months now :sneer:

You guys will make this call, that's why I'm asking here.

I love to travel around all different kinds of boards on the net. I would like to think that I'm the same person on any board I go. Like me or hate me is the choice of the reader.

I have friends on both PM and here as well as several other sites on the net. I think letting them read what is going on is a good thing. That way it's an open book policy.
Helps put down some of the conspiracy theorists, bi-polars or anyone else that thinks life is dealing them a bum hand. It's all out in the open, black and white.

I have those that I like exchanging private messages and e-mails with and that is because it's of a personal nature. Anything else I say is for anyone that wants....let 'em read.

Shoot, I'm not even sure what I'm talking about now....
Oh well...bottom line....in my humble opinion is to keep it open to all.

The poll speaks for itself. I say let them view. I know I won't be leaving this site for a long time. Good people here from what I see.

Hmmm, I was one of the first (actually the fifteenth) to register here and I have no problem at PM. In fact I think things are going quite smoothly.
Maybe it's what you make of it. I choose to make the best of it.

I too like the atmosphere of the small boards, sometimes it's just relaxing to log onto a smaller board with a couple hundred members and you know everyone.
I have a couple others that are small that I visit daily as well as PM which I visit multiple times a day. I don't see myself ever changing that.
Fins and Fur is just one more freindly little board that I enjoy spending time on.

PS. I did vote no last night on this poll.
