Savage Gear?
« on: April 30, 2018, 01:52:10 PM »
Any of you HARD CORE fisher type fellas ever run or use any of the Savage Gear 3D or 4D lures with any real good luck?

I ordered the 4D Thru Trout in two sizes and the 3D Thru Pike in two sizes. I primarily got them for pike and it looks like in the videos that the real life motion kills the fish. If these work I'm going to order the duck and burbot.

I'd share the video but don't recall how to do it.   :doh2:

Yeah nasty they kinda are, and it wasn't easy pulling the trigger on them. Figure if I want to try and break the 50" pike mark I'm going to have to play with the big dogs. (Plus, I had enough Cabelas points from over the years to make them practically free.  )

Jim, I watched a lot of videos on these, especially the thru trout. They swim like the real deal and really entice the fatties. Figure if one $12 lure catches or last long enough to catch me at least 5-6 40+ inchers, I'll be extremely happy.

Also threw down last week for some Whopper Plopper 90's, but I got 10 of them for a smoking deal on ebay. I'm hoping they also will produce this summer.

If ya can't tell I'm going on a pike frenzy this year, be it bow, spinning reel, fly rod, spear or ice fishing.

I buy from china , .99 a lure,  hurts a lot less if you snag one up and lose it.

Jim, I do too. Seems like everything I fish with up here falls between $2.50 to $7. Flies and Streamers are getting just as bad.

Nasty, I used to get those from China until I walked through the house with one, one day. Every light I went past flickered, and the kids gold fish grew a third eye.  :innocentwhistle: :eyebrownod: :nono: :alscalls:  No, I'll order a few here and there. Matter fact was looking at picking up a shipment of Micro Crank baits from them. (They probaly make the ones we buy here anyway.)

I have a lure similar to that, that a call maker made for me about 10 years ago. I did a fly in fishing trip for pike and had purchased about $100 worth of top line lures for that trip. Told the guy I was with I just need to try this custom one first so I could tell the call maker I at least tried it. It never came off the pole for two days and my fancy lures never got used. It accounted for hooking to somewhere between 200-300 pike. Somewhere between every 1-3 cast it had a fish. My buddy was getting mad because he was changing lures like crazy trying to keep up with my catches, but he couldn't do it.  I'll find a pic of it.

Interesting lure, I have never seen that little cable hook set up before!  Over all the best lure I have used for pike over the years is a Dardevle red n white spoon :yoyo:

Nasty, the cable slips up between and snaps into the wire thing on the back/bttom side. When the fish strikes it breaks away so the lure itself can't aid the fish in throwing the hook. I had never seen it before but it worked awesomely. Kind of similar to the theory on the thru trout. I love the battle scars on it.  It caught that 42 incher in my profile pic.

Very cool looking lure - especially so because someone made it!  Really like that whole break away from the plug system too - never seen it before.

And I have seen those 4D lures, just didn't know that's what they were.  Actually bought a mackerel one while striper fishing the Cape Cod canal a few years back.  Probably $16 and used it one day  :pout:  Will get back up there again though, and put it to good use.

Dave, it is a real nice handmade lure. It floats at idle and slow retrieve. When your slowing it in, it stays on the surface and wobbles back and forth. As you pick up speed its starts to dive and widens more from a wobble to back and forth swimming motion in the water. Kind of a modified J-Plug.

Ill be using them all here reel (See what I did there  ) soon here, so I'll try to get video maybe and give up dates.
