Anyone else watching the show Mountain Men on the History Channel? I have watched it for the past several seasons and really enjoy it. Tom Oar is a person that I wish could be cloned and shared with the world. He is really getting up there in age but seems to enjoy life and helping others. Then there is Jake Herak and his lion hounds. How that man can cover 10 or more miles in the mountains of Montana is more than I can imagine. The other 'stars' of the show are also interesting, but Tom and Jake are at the top for me. If the History Channel isn't on your T.V., I think you can stream shows.

Tom Oar 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I used to watch it until I realized alot it was scripted bs.  marty mariato that left that trapped using the plane they made look like an idiot all the time.  kinda like swamp people they blow everything out of proportion.

I thought meateater had the hound guy on the podcast before.

honestly the only show I watch on tv anymore is or was alone.  its kinda turning to scripted bs now because people have learned how to buck the system by drinking raw EVO or some other fattening deal for months before leaving so they have fat to waste on the show.  Same thing with the guy that dyed his hair for tying flys.  the basis of the show is being dropped at your normal weight and living off the land.

I've watched it for a few years. An entertaining program at times. The lion houndsman's belief. He can runs a lion out of it's territory. Is fool hardy when it comes to a territorial lion. Sure he run that lion back into the mountains. But it isn't leaving because of that. Any territorial predator imo. Will not leave it's territory. Unless killed or ran of by a more determined alpha male. Some people amuse me, by their own beliefs as if it is fact in all cases.

So, I do have a question that maybe someone can answer. Several of the cats have been run and he has mentioned that cat season is open. Why doesn't he just shoot them? I am fairly sure that there would be a market for them.

And I agree that some of the characters are not worth watching and when they come on I hit the fast forward button.

I believe the idea is to harass them so they associate humans as bad.  pretty sure thats what they do in states that have a ban on hunting now.  T

Yea, I can see that, but if there is hunting, why not just shoot the cat? Then again they probably can't show a cat being killed, but it is O.K. for beavers and martins. 🙄

you allowed to shoot em in montana?

I used to watch it religiously.
Tom, I agree is a different breed and envied by many.
I only get the reruns now. I got tired of the $200 Phone/internet bill and told em too keep the shit.

if you have a roku or other streaming service history channel airs all their stuff 24 hours after live tv.  Which is good enough for me.

The guy with lion hounds, amuses me. He claimed numerous times. He uses his hounds to run lions back up into the mountains off of the rancher's land. Like that is going to work on a territorial lion. Laughable imo. That is likened to something running you out of your house. Like you won't be back. HELLO!  :laf:

I'm no expert but think you are right, based on a few experiences of lions coming back immediately after being run off, either off a kill or off a location.

The most striking to me is a lion that moved into my cousin's yard in the edge of a small town in Washington. I posted about here.  It slept on the limb of a big cedar tree in their yard, where his 5 year old grandson usually played, and they saw it several times.  A warden came out with a hound man and they ran it half a mile or more up the  mountain, though the hound man would not take his dogs off a a leash.

They said that they had scared it enough that it would not come back.  It was back before dark.  My cousin phoned the warden, whom he knew, and told him that law or no law he was going to shooot it the next time he saw it. The warden and hound man came back the next morning, treed it within 100 yards or so of the house, and killed it.

Killing it makes the most sense to me to not have it return. I think Jake normally runs them about 10 miles into the hills, but still (to me) a bullet makes more sense.

I have only see a few lions in the wild while on vacation which doesn't make me an expert. But I did spend a night in a Holiday Inn Express. . . . .

Speaking of the Holiday Inn mindset. I've watched most episodes of Dr. Marcus Welby MD. So I'm now a self anointed pretend OBGYN expert. I'm perfectly willing to give FREE pelvic exams. To beautiful single women (ONLY).  :innocentwhistle:
