I finally got my benchrest project finished today.  I made the leg extensions out of angle steel with the holes predrilled, pieces of 3/8" allthread, lock washers, and wing nuts.  It gives me a total adjustment on each leg of about 3 inches.  I discovered that if I gave up the clamp feature of the Skil workmate, and laminated a 5 inch board, it made the table top the correct width.  Then all I had to do was round the back corner to keep it from digging into my chest.  I totally eliminated the crank handles since I wouldn't be using that feature anymore, so a left hander can sit down on the right side and shoot.  I also took a hole saw and drilled two different holes from the cradle pole to accomodate different people.  It is super solid and easy to transport.  Total cost is about $45.00 including the modifications.  That requires finding a deal on the Skil workmate like I did at Harbor Freight ($29.95). Here are some pictures of the finished product.

It is really easy to transport when folded up.  It has all the room I need to rest my elbow, but if a bigger man needed more room, it would be simple to attach an extension to the back corner opposite where you sit.  The pouch and the shelf give you good places to keep ammo, cleaning eqpt., and anything like that. I'll post a picture when I get a chance with sandbags and ready to shoot position.
