Yeah, I was gonna drop in and do some hunting with ya's. But if Chris isn't cooking then forget it. I'll just stay home and eat some out dated cottage cheese and an egg.

It was a good AM to be hunting. I got there & as usual the doorman was at his post & promplty urged me in out of the 17* air. Man that felt good. So up the stairs we went to wait on the other fellas. Purdy soon along came Bud & Joe. I was pleased to meet up with these two fellas. Bud is a nice fella. The quiet type it seems. It was cool to meet up with DirtyDog also. Joe was out the night before calling & looked a little worn.  :laf: But he was eager to get started again as were we. The 1st stand Joe called in an Amish lady with a crossbow.  I've always been afeared of the quarry showing up armed. :roflmao: But alas they are armed Indian style & the Cowboys had fire sticks. On the 2nd set we had 4 deer run out of the field ahead of us. The wind was right so we made another stand. No takers. The 3rd stand had us on the other side of the high wall from the 2nd stand. We had a hawk come in & lite above Bill's head & I seen a deer peek out of the woods. The wind was wrong after that for where Bill had plans to hunt. No problem,, you can't change the wind Bill!! You just gotta deal with it & move on. We went back to Bills for a little bit then just to shoot the breeze. A fella never knows what he's gonna learn when the lies are flowing freely!! :roflmao:  It was a good set & talk session at the table over coffee & soda. Noon rolled around & I had some work to do so I left. Joe & Bill were headed out brush stompin for rabbits & will have to finish the story. I wonder how their night hunt went??

Well we did the brush stomping and kicked up one rabbit and a deer didn't get either one.We went on kicking brush and still nothing. We decided it was time to head back to the house kicking and stomping through little mounds of brush staying away from the real thick stuff. When crash snap sounded like a herd of elephants coming through the trees.I didn't see it but I knew what it was Joe said it was one of the biggest bodied deer he had ever seen.We talked about that for awhile and then back to the house for some chile made by Chris. After 2 bowles a chile we went for a deer hunt I had the bow and Joe had his Grove Grunter.with no luck back to the house and geared up for a late evening hunt.Back to the same property we done our first set in the morning just the other side.Joe opened the stand with his Kees cow horn Howler and we got to hear coyotes anyway.I done some rabbit distress sounds for about 15 or 20 minutes. We had movement but couldn't see well enough to shoot so we sat quite for a few minutes broke stand and back to the house.Joe gathered up his stuff and went home.Me I gathered up myself stumbled up the stairs and fell asleep on the couch

It was a good day

Bill-- Here's the numbers I came up with.

.616" @ the end.
.602" @ the band.
15.66mm @ the end.
15.30" at the band.

It tapers back to the band.   Now this is only measuring one piece mind you. Not the whole batch for an aggregate number. I'm thinking a 9/16" or a 19/32" bit then finishing with a dowel wrapped in emery cloth. Emery seems to lay flatter around the rod.  You can check one with an open end wrench perhaps.

Hope this sheds some light on this for you.

Sure does Glen so in another words they are not 5/8 like I was told

I bought a 9/16 drill bit today  I might be in for some sanding it looks like

Thanks

Near as I can figure from the one I measured & the two that fell into the hole.

If you are not having trouble with your drill press on the enclosed reed calls drilling an oversize hole due to chuck wobble,, I'd say you didn't have the problem with the 5/8" bit wobbling either. And it fell right into a hole from my good set of Forstner bits when I drilled a 5/8" hole for a test here. I've been thinking maybe you could turn grooves in the tone board & add a couple o-rings & still use a 5/8" bit.  Maybe they were intended to be used that way.

You're Welcome!!
