Shop Talk - Lets see some pictures of home shops.

How many of you guys have home shops. I know all the guys making calls have at least a few pieces. Any one want to show off your shop? Any of the history behind it?

I'll Start. I went to a trade school in high school. I took carpentry. We built a house our senior year. I learned how to use a lot of wood working tools. I have spent the last almost 30 years collecting wood working equipment for my shop.

The last 3 or 4 years I have gotten into machining and metal working. I have found I really love the metal working and am having a ball learning how to use my equipment I have bought.

I hope some of you other home hobbiest will join in and show some of your own shop photos. Might give me and idea of something else I need. Dont worry I won't tell my wife who turned me on to something I need for my shop.

I have a bulk roll of bandsaw blade. There is a cutter on the side of the welder to cut it to the length you need. Then you have to line up the ends in the welder. You want them to be touching and even on the cutting side. There is a button that when you push it, it will weld the two ends together. Then you have to anneal the weld. There is another button that when pushed it will heat the blade in the welded area. Doing this several times, a little less each time anneals it so it won't break at the weld when turning around the wheels of the band saw.

It took a few trys to figure out how to make a good weld but the last one I did has lasted for a long time.

I wouldn't live long enough to use 1/2 of those tools more than twice!! One heckuva shop you got there Steve.

I wondered why there were so many pics, but I guess to get the whole shop you have to make a movie. LOL

Thanks for the nice comments about my shop everybody.

Come on Id like to see some of your shops! Also lets post some pictures of some of the things you have made. On some other sights I have seen lots of neat things people have made.

Here is one of the last things I made. It is for jeweling or fluting Rem. 700 bolts. I made it so it could be used on short or long action bolts. It has a long bolt in it for the picture.

Ok you asked for a couple pics here is a few things I made

A christmas gift I made for my wife. It is made of Kiln dried black walnut

And a set of candle sticks made out of spalted maple soaked in linseed oil before I turned them

And yes that is my oldest daughter

She sure looks happy. Always nice to make something for your daughter so she can say Daddy made these for me.

I coppied from THO and made a couple candle holders and a dried flower holder out of Bocote for my wife last year.

What kind of lathe do you have? Mine is an OLD craftsman lathe that belonged to my wifes father and his father before him. Hopfully it will go on to belong to one of my furtue grandchildren.

When I got it I couldn't get anything to turn smooth. It had a bad belt and vibrated just enough that I couldn't get a good finish. Replacing the belt salved the problem. Who would think a belt would go bad in only 50 years or so!
