I was trying to be nice

A while back I was at the grocery store standing in the check out line,an elderly woman was in front of me
getting ready to pay for her items,when she discovered she was about $.60 short.She was gonna have to put something back.I told the cashier I would pay the rest just  add it to my items.

The woman was in shock and started to argue with me ,but I won.

As she started to introduce herself I told her I know who you are and there was no need to try and repay me.
She looked at me very puzzled,then I told her she was my first grade teacher and I hadn't seen her in about as many years.

I no sooner got my name out and she came back with Oh My God Bill did you ever learn to read 

Did I mention the store was packed with people
