I hate to start this but I want to know  what you think. If you are night hunting would you leave the light on or turn it on when the coyote get in front of you? Do you use two seperate lights?
I usually never turn my light on until I get em close. I have tried both ways and just want you guys to tell me what you do.

Leave it on.....use a red lens. They feel safe with a red lights, god know why
My opinion.....why shut it off? Your calling and they need or actually would better utilize another defining target. So if your calling and they are scrambling in the dark to pin point the target, why shut off something they feel safe with and not give them a direct path?
Trust me it works :eyebrow:

Quoteor turn it on when the coyote get in front of you?

Unless there is a full moon & snow cover how do you know they are there? Keep in mind I don't night hunt. That was just the thought that popped into my bean when I read it.

Well I do use a red lens, and I hear them coming either they are howling, or I hear their footsteps, I have even heard them pant. However there have been times where I got busted thinking oh that is just a deer and it was in fact a coyote sneaking in. One time last year I got kicked by a deer that I thought was a coyote using fawn distress and I let her get too close. When I turned my light on she was already standing on her back legs and kicking I knocked the switch back to the off position and clear off the gun!! She kicked me hitting more gun than me thank God, And I rolled on the ground came to my feet and got my light back on and she was leaving. I got my composure and hit a howler,....bad move she came back and chased me around a tree kicking my elbow.
I later asked the other two guys with me, Why did you just sit there and watch? My one buddy said cause it was to damn funny I guess. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :nono:( We found and early fawn on the way out not 20yds. from us.)
I have tried light on, and for me no action. I use a separate head lamp for that, to save on batteries and it just seems to keep them away. I use mouth calls a lot so I have to keep the light still so I can use my calls I think they can see me when I do that. I am not sure.......
